2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics 2/12 Primetime Highlights

Tuesday's coverage of the XXIII Olympic Winter Games from PyeongChang, South Korea, is highlighted by:

• NBC's primetime presentation, which begins at 8 p.m. ET live across all time zones, featuring multi-medal threat Mikaela Shiffrin, who in 2014 became the youngest-ever Olympic slalom champion, beginning her title defense as the heavy favorite;

• Two-time Olympic gold medalist Shaun White targeting a third Olympic gold in the men's halfpipe live in primetime on NBC;

• Team USA's husband-and-wife duo of Alexa Scimeca Knierim and Chris Knierim competing in the FIGURE SKATING pairs' short program in primetime on NBC;

• Wall-to-wall coverage on NBCSN, including Team USA vs. Olympic Athletes from Russia in women's hockey, gold medal finals in speed skating, luge, and cross country.

Following are highlights from tonight's evening and primetime coverage of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics on the networks of NBCUniversal:

SNOWBOARDING - NBC

Analyst Todd Richards on Chloe Kim after her first run: "Ladies and gentlemen, Chloe Kim just showed up. We may have just seen the gold medal run happen early in this competition."

NBC Olympics primetime host Mike Tirico on Kim: "You know when you watch a great athlete who's just a notch above everybody else in the sport? They don't always win, but they wow you. Kind of like Tiger at the height of his prime in golf. Chloe Kim, if you didn't know or understand all of the hype - maybe you understand now."

Todd Harris after Kim clinched gold: "She will go to a high school prom with the ultimate bling. Chloe Kim reigns supreme in South Korea."

Richards on Kim meeting high expectations with gold medal win: "Would she live up to the expectations that everyone put on her? And she did. It's so rare that people can live up to the hype. Chloe Kim absolutely did that today. It wasn't any shock to me we've seen it all season long. Chloe Kim is the future and it is here, inspiring women all over the world."

Richards on Kim's tweet mid-final about being 'hangry': "We've got churros mentioned, we've got ice cream mentioned in qualifiers, and now breakfast sandwiches? Someone take this girl out to dinner."

Richards on five-time Olympian Kelly Clark: "If there's someone I admire for work ethic alone, it's Kelly Clark. She has time and time again pushed her own limits - that's hard to do in this day and age of snowboarding. Inspiring generations of riders to up their game. Kelly Clark's pursuit of progression in the halfpipe is directly responsible for her competition now. Chloe Kim is definitely a protégé of Kelly Clark's riding style."

Harris: "Just to put it in perspective - Kelly Clark started SNOWBOARDING seven years before Chloe Kim was even born."

Richards on scoring of Clark's final run, keeping her off the podium: "Wow. I don't understand where the judging is going right now. Kelly had one of the strongest runs we've seen here all day... Kelly's score was very low. I've seen every run come down this thing. I know what these riders need to do. But for some reason, the judges don't want to reward Kelly. These bottom two hits, the amount of style, the amount of execution on those? Never mind the 1080 and the combo on top. I am baffled."

Richards on Shaun White posting a 93.25 in the first run of men's halfpipe qualifying: "Shaun White has so much more. He's got another three gears to shift into."

ALPINE SKIING - NBC

Analyst Bode Miller on Ted Ligety's chances in the super combined, trailing by 2.12 seconds after the downhill: "The question is, how is his slalom? When he won in 2006 in Torino, he had a huge deficit in the downhill. I know, because I won that downhill, and I had 3-plus seconds on him after the downhill, and he was still able to win. You can never discount an Olympic champion. If he can stay somewhat close in the downhill, he's got a chance in the slalom."

LUGE - NBCSN

Analyst Duncan KENNEDY on U.S. flag bearer Erin Hamlin's second luge run: "Right off the bat I've seen some little skids up top through (turn) four. Again, it does not seem like much, but those tiny things add up, especially that high up on the track. There's no way to physically accelerate the sled anymore. You have to be super clean up top."

Play-by-play commentator Leigh Diffey: "I think she knows that could have been better."

OLYMPIC ICE PRESENTED BY TOYOTA - NBCSN

Olympic Ice Presented by Toyota is NBCSN's live, daily FIGURE SKATING studio show.

Olympic Ice analyst Scott Hamilton on Mirai Nagasu's triple axel: "When she threw that triple axel, knowing Mirai for as long as I've known her, I screamed at the top of my lungs. I was so proud of her. After everything that she's been through, to step on Olympic ice, when the United States needed her the most, and be the first American woman to land a triple axel in competition."

Olympic Ice analyst Tanith White added: "Scott and I were up there in the booth and we were frantically scribbling out scenarios. 'OK, where does she need to finish?' And as soon as she landed that triple axel, we threw our papers over our shoulders. 'Well, it's done. That seals the deal.'"

Olympic Ice Host Liam McHugh on team figure skating: "Going back to your days at the Olympics is this something you would have liked to experience."

White: "I would have loved to compete in a team event. You look at these skaters and a lot of them have so much history together. They have been coming up through the ranks together. It is so special to be able to not only skate in an Olympic Games, but to be able to skate together. That is so unique and I hope they will remember it for the rest of their lives."

White on Adam Rippon's performance on Sunday: "The performance was magical. And I think there should be a component for magic at the Olympic Games because this is the kind of performance that you imagine and you dream of happening on Olympic ice."

White on increasing the value of component score in judging: "Don't devalue the jumps, because we need to continue to incentivize the athletes to go for the quads, because they are learning them and excelling. We need to keep the incentive, but balance out the components, because you can't just have those dropping off the map. Otherwise you are just going to have a bunch of jumping beans with lackluster performances."
