What did our critic think of JON BATISTE BRINGS HIS MUSICAL GENIUS TO BOSTON POPS at Symphony Hall?
Great Scott! Our 1985 memories have zoomed into town on the back of the much-anticipated tour of Back to the Future: The Musical. Based on the hit motion picture, the bones are the same: small-town dreamer Marty McFly is accidentally sent back in time by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown, where one wrong move could erase his future forever. The National Tour brings the nostalgia, packed with energy and jaw-dropping spectacle, to Broadway Sacramento for a limited time.
What did our critic think of THE QUEEN'S NANNY at Pumphouse Theatre. Tadpole Theatre Productions has delivered a finely crafted and absorbing season of a play that deserves attention. This New Zealand premiere feels timely, entertaining and quietly devastating. With excellent performances, clever direction from Simon Prast, an integrated and effective set, and a script of real quality from Melanie Tait, The Queen’s Nanny is a thoroughly worthwhile night at the theatre.
What did our critic think of PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE at Short North Stage?
Puck Bunnies, a musical from the minds of Kyra Brown and Christian Leonard lovingly lampoons the ludicrousness of this love story through heightened impersonations, witty pop culture needle drops, and a boatload of silliness.
On May 7th at Joe’s Pub, composer/saxophonist/singer Stephanie Chou presented her original scores for two Asian-American films from the silent era in SILENT FILMS IN SOUND.
On May 8 at Don’t Tell Mama, FIDELITY’S SELECTIONS FROM INTO THE WOODS reimagined Sondheim through an actor-musician lens, with a full cast performing while playing instruments in an ambitious, tightly executed concert.

What did our critic think of LE BAL at Trap Door Theatre?
An utterly convincing rollercoaster of life, death, and the world around us. See what our critic had to say.
What did our critic think of INTIMI(DATING), SINGLE RIDER SONGBOOK, AND MORE at The Orlando Fringe Festival?
The global musical phenomenon “Die Eiskönigin” („Frozen“) continues to captivate audiences of all ages in Germany. Following a successful run in Hamburg, Elsa, Anna, and Olaf have firmly established themselves in Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg. This acclaimed production — a replica of the Broadway and West End versions — proves to be nothing less than pure Disney magic here as well.
The current incarnation of the beloved rock musical “We Will Rock You” in Stuttgart arrives on stage draped in an entirely new visual guise. The book, too, feels fresher, more coherent and more comprehensible than before. At the heart of it all, naturally, are the immortal songs of Queen — the audience is truly having a ball in this show!
What did our critic think of ÍCARO at Teatro De La Ciudad Esperanza Iris?
Young Love, Love Lost and Genuine Storytelling in Stages’ Sin Muros Festival’s first fully developed production.
HARD TO SWALLOW is the latest cabaret from Reuben Kaye and it is everything audiences have come to expect from the incredibly intelligent performer who blends ‘no holds barred’ political and social commentary with clever new music and a liberal dose of fabulously funny filth.
Set in the late 1980’s, Robert Harling’s STEEL MAGNOLIAS expresses the enduring power of the sisterhood in helping face the challenges of life.
A verbatim drama retelling the events of a local Glaswegian community coming together to stop a dawn raid.
