Soprano Deborah Voigt Cancels Tonight's Performance of VOIGT LESSONS for SF Opera Lab

By:

San Francisco Opera today announced the sudden cancellation of this evening's performance of American soprano Deborah Voigt in her eponymous show Voigt Lessons, to be presented by SF Opera Lab at the Wilsey Center's Taube Atrium Theater.

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley said: "It is with sincere regret that Deborah Voigt finds herself forced to cancel tonight's West Coast premiere of Voigt Lessons. She is recovering after experiencing a ruptured eardrum last night. However, she is determined to return to the stage this Sunday, May 8, to perform her one-woman show as planned. To make up for tonight's cancellation, San Francisco Opera is working with Debbie to secure a new date in June."

The San Francisco Opera Box Office staff will be in communication with all ticket holders for this evening's sold-out show asking them to hold on to their tickets for a future June performance or provide a ticket refund. The Box Office can be reached at (415) 864-3330. Refunds for pre-ordered food and drinks will be processed immediately.

Performed by Deborah Voigt and pianist Kevin Stites, the intimate and acclaimed one-woman show weaves songs and arias, ranging from music by the Carpenters to Strauss, into a vivid and moving account of the superstar soprano's life and career.

Deborah Voigt's relationship with San Francisco Opera started in 1985 when she received professional training as a member of the prestigious Merola Opera Program, which led to her participation in the San Francisco Opera Adler Fellowship Program for the following two years. Before she rose to international fame, Bay Area audiences first heard her as an emerging artist in the Company's Don Carlos, Jen?fa, Macbeth, Nabucco and Die Zauberflöte. She later returned to perform leading roles in Un Ballo in Maschera, Tannhäuser, Die Walküre, Ariadne auf Naxos and, most recently, in 2010 in the title role of La Fanciulla del West.
