American rock band Mayday Parade has released a video for "It's Hard To Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Bolts Of Lightning". The song is described as 'angrier' than anything they have written before. With such an emotion-filled track, the video had to include just as much feeling and rebellion. Directed by Miguel Barbosa, the video portrays a cult-like group partaking in a ritual. A sense of optimism is introduced at the end when two women in love flee the group and embrace who they are as a couple.

Frontman Derek Sanders explains that he wrote the song shortly after the 2016 presidential election. With his brain full of thoughts and his heart full of emotion, Sanders used his feelings of anger and disbelief to write the track.

On June 15th, Sunnyland, the bands fifth studio album, is set to release as a follow up to their 2015 album Black Lines. The album will feature 13 tracks with "It's Hard To Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated By Bolts Of Lightning" being the first.
