Toadies are offering up a free download of their cover of David Bowie's 'Heroes' as a tribute to the man who inspired them along with so many other musicians.

The band played the song every night on their recent headline tour including the historic Luckenbach Dance Hall where this particular recording comes from. The track was recorded live on October 11th and mixed by Chris "Frenchie" Smith at the Bubble, Austin Texas, January 11th. Toadies wanted to do a few covers during their recent live shows and Bowie was an obvious and unanimous choice says drummer, Rez: "Bowie was everything an artist should be, always searching, always innovating. Words can't express my admiration or my sense of loss. He'll always be my hero."

Toadies guitarist Clark Vogeler adds: "Over the years, we have have performed David Bowie's music both at live shows and just futzing around in the rehearsal space. His immeasurable talent and influence will surely live on forever. We were lucky to have had him around all this time. We just wish we would have had a chance to say 'Goodbye.' In lieu of that, this will have to do. Thank you, David Bowie and Goodbye." And from frontman Vaden, simply: "I'm pissed off. And this sucks. And I'm gonna miss you. Dammit."

Toadies invite fans to enjoy the free download of 'Heroes' and encourage a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of David Bowie. Text HOPE to 20222 to make a $5 donation or give at donate.cancer.org/index
