The Return of Legendary Swiss Entertainers With MUMMENSCHANZ

The legendary Swiss entertainers, Mummenschanz troupe brings to life their famous large-scale masks and revives a tradition of acrobatics in their newest program, entitled, "You & me" for one performance at Music Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Sunday, March 11, at 4:00 PM.

Founded in 1972 by Bernie Schürch, Floriana Frassetto and Andres Bossard, the Swiss mask theater troupe Mummenschanz has pioneered a new form of visual theater and inspired generations of show-goers across five continents over four decades.

MUMMENSCHANZ's non-verbal theatrical language has continued to develop independently of the contemporary mask-theatre genre. The 'stories' told by MUMMENSCHANZ are simply visual. No musical tracking, no stage set. Only objects, mask-objects; just bodies, object-bodies evolving against a black background thus composing a playful paralanguage that can be understood by all.

MUMMENSCHANZ have been inspiring audiences around the world with their wordless but extremely poetic art. Since December 2016, MUMMENSCHANZ has been on tour with the new stage show "you & me". This new program by the visual theater company was created under the artistic direction of founding member Floriana Frassetto.

"You & me" is the name of the brand new program with which the award-winning masters of fantasy are presenting in Detroit.

"You & me" is a program that can be funny, melancholic, funny, romantic, amazing, dramatic and exciting. It's a" game" by MUMMENSCHANZ, which in an inimitable way represents the normal human everyday life and thus entertains millions of people all over the world.

Floriana Frassetto is the artistic director of "you & me". Mummenschanz founded the St. Gallen Rheintal Poet of Silence in 1972 together with Andres Bossard and Bernie Schürch and is himself on stage for decades with the troupe. Her great experience will give the new program a very special character. Starting in December, Floriana Frassetto will be presenting what MUMMENSCHANZ is all about with "you & me": to show something without words or music, only with calm actions and a few props that will amuse, touch, cast a spell over. A program that lasts long after the end of the performance with a wonderful ease!
