Rolling Stones' Merry Clayton Suffers Severe Injuries from a Car Accident

On June 16, Merry Clayton suffered severe injuries from a car accident and has a long road ahead of her for recovery. The news was posted to her website following the accident.

The announcement states, "It is with deep regret, but also deep gratitude, that we announce the following about our beloved Merry Clayton. At approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 16, 2014, Merry was involved in a major automobile accident in Los Angeles, California. Merry sustained severe injuries to her lower body, including major trauma to her lower extremities. We are truly grateful that our dear Merry is still with us."

Clayton is a singer from New Orleans. She has appeared on stage with many well-known musicians, including Neil Young, Ray Charles, the Rolling Stones. Her contributions to the music industry were also recently highlighted in the 2013 film Twenty Feet From Stardom, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature.
