Reprise Records will release a limited, deluxe 3-LP vinyl edition of Dwight Yoakam's classic debut album Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., on December 23rd. The collection features the original 1986 album tracks, including the 10 demos that the Kentucky-born, Ohio-raised singer and songwriter recorded in 1981 at United Western Recorders in Hollywood, CA. It will also include 12 live tracks from a defining performance at the Roxy on L.A.'s famed Sunset Strip shortly after the album's release. The remastered tracks first appeared on a CD reissue released by Rhino Records in 2006, but this is the first time the bonus content has been released on vinyl. The Reprise set also features expanded liner notes adapted for the album's 30th anniversary.
After signing with Reprise in 1985, Yoakam recorded Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc., - his major label debut - with guitarist Pete Anderson, bassist J. D. Foster, drummer Jeff Donavan and with Brantley Kearns on fiddle. The album climbed to #1 on Billboard's Country Album Chart for two weeks and remained on the charts for three years. Its unique mix of traditional honky-tonk, red-hot Bakersfield twang and rock 'n' roll spirit spawned a trio of hit singles including the title track, a cover of Johnny Horton's 1956 hit "Honky Tonk Man" and "It Won't Hurt."
Yoakam has recorded more than 22 albums and sold over 25 million copies worldwide with five reaching the #1 spot on Billboard. He is a 21-time nominated, multiple Grammy Award winner. In 2013 he was awarded The Americana Music Association Award for Artist of the Year. He has collaborated with everyone from Beck to Kid Rock, ZZ Top, Hunter S. Thompson and Jack White. He has toured with the likes of Buck Owens, Johnny Cash and Hüsker Dü. His most recent album, 2015's critically acclaimed Second Hand Heart, is included in NPR's "Best of 2015," which calls the album "as fresh as anything Yoakam has ever done." It reached #2 on the Billboard Country chart with Rolling Stone saying the album featured "his best songs in years."
