PEGGY to Release Debut Album ONCE UPON A TIME
The album, produced with Magnus Skylstad, draws on mythology and literature to explore identity, grief, and hope.
Michigan-born, LA-based indie pop singer, songwriter Peggy has announced her long-awaited debut album, ONCE UPON A TIME, arriving via Nettwerk Music Group on November 13. Alongside the announcement, she shares the album's newest single, 'STARCROSSED' featuring Lydia the Bard.
For Peggy, fantasy has always been more than escapism; it's been a language for understanding the real world. On ONCE UPON A TIME, she transforms folklore, mythology, and classic literature into deeply personal reflections on identity, love, grief, climate anxiety, artificial intelligence, and hope. The result is her most ambitious work to date: a cinematic collection of songs that cements the self-described architect of 'fantasy pop' as one of alternative pop's most imaginative new voices.
''STARCROSSED' examines the trope of star-crossed lovers,' Peggy explains. 'My character is saying, 'There's no point in trying,' while Lydia's character believes there's still hope. It's a tragic love story, but also one about choosing hope even when the ending feels inevitable.'
Produced alongside Magnus Skylstad (AURORA), ONCE UPON A TIME finds Peggy expanding the lush, cinematic world she's been building since first emerging in 2021. Across the record, figures like Frankenstein's monster, Orpheus, Gatsby, and Atlas become stand-ins for modern emotional realities, creating a living storybook where timeless myths illuminate contemporary struggles.
Peggy has spent the past several years cultivating a fiercely devoted global fanbase by turning viral moments into lasting connections. Early breakout singles 'MESS,' 'Villains Aren't Born (They're Made),' and 'ALICE' have amassed tens of millions of streams, while her acclaimed DEAR READER and COMING OF AGE EPs established her signature blend of literary storytelling and soaring alternative pop.
At the heart of ONCE UPON A TIME is Peggy's desire to create a place where listeners can step outside reality, even if only for a moment.
'For my whole life, I've always felt like an alien,' she says. 'With music and art, it's different. I'm making what I call 'fantasy pop.' I want it to be a safe space for anyone who needs an escape from the world or somewhere to go outside of reality for a bit.'
With ONCE UPON A TIME, Peggy invites listeners into a world where every song is a chapter, every character reflects something deeply human, and every myth reveals a new truth.
