Major Spark Releases Single I LOVE THIS COUNTRY, Sets New LP KILL THE TRUTH
Mark Goodman and Brian Charles front the Boston band behind the politically charged new record.
Boston-based indie rock group Major Spark – led by songwriter and vocalist Mark Goodman (Magnet) and producer and multi-instrumentalist Brian Charles (Rare Signals) – has released their new single 'I Love This Country' and announced their new album, Kill The Truth, will be released on Friday, October 2nd via High Wave with distribution from Downtown.
'I Love This Country' pairs melodic, jangly Americana sweetness with biting commentary that serves as a bold ideological reclamation. Kill The Truth, Major Spark's third studio album, is described as a fierce, razor-sharp political record for the current times, and includes their previously released anti-authoritarian single 'Jackboot Thugs.'
'Our new album Kill The Truth is highly critical of the current US administration, but we need to remind people of positive elements of our country. There IS something worth fighting for,' shares Major Spark of the new single. 'There are many amazing people, places and events scattered across the United States, and we want to celebrate the beautiful things that make us unique – and reclaim the flag for the artists, thinkers, athletes, and those on the fringes of society.'
Kill The Truth is a high-energy, thoroughly engaging and deeply intelligent rock meets alt-country record. The collective recently introduced the record with 'Jackboot Thugs,' offering a bold statement against the current administration's immigration enforcement policies and a broader warning about the systemic erosion of freedom. The lead single kicks the gate down with a driving garage-rock urgency that accelerates into a spectacular finish, channeling the spirit of the Clash, and is gaining traction across DSPs and AAA radio.
Nothing was off limits when writing the 10 songs featured on Kill The Truth. Highlighting the threats as well as the patriotism in the U.S. right now, the album takes direct aim at the calculated demolition of the free press and sounds the alarm for a complacent public. Kill The Truth was written and recorded at Charles' Rare Signals studio in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Formed out of decades of musical partnership and experimentation, Major Spark thrives on sonic exploration without boundaries. Mark Goodman, a veteran of the indie/underground scene who founded the band Magnet in 1995, has collaborated with Moe Tucker of The Velvet Underground and David Lowery of Camper Van Beethoven. Brian Charles, a producer and engineer, has credits including DISPATCH, Marina and the Diamonds, and Weakened Friends.
The longtime friends first debuted as Major Spark in 2021 with the release of the single 'I'm Not Gonna Stand Around' and their album, Beautiful Noise. The group's follow-up sophomore album, Walk Among the Poppies, was released in 2025 and features the single 'The Other Side,' which the release describes as encapsulating Major Spark's blend of vintage grit, lyrical sincerity, and rebellious positivity.
