Hollywood Bowl Named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue At 29th Annual Pollstar Awards

By:

The Hollywood Bowl, one of the leading outdoor music venues in the world and the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, was honored as the Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue last night at the 29th Annual Pollstar Awards at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. This distinction marks the 14th consecutive nomination and subsequent award for the iconic venue and affirms the Hollywood Bowl as a premiere destination for performers and audiences alike. Renowned for its exquisite setting, the Hollywood Bowl plays host to a tremendous diversity of artists, from classical and pops to jazz, rock, and world music.

During the 2017 season, the Hollywood Bowl concert series included performances by Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, The Moody Blues, Ziggy Marley, Joshua Bell, Blondie, Tony Bennett, Diana Krall, Gipsy Kings, Mavis Staples, Yo-Yo Ma, Solange, Café Tacvuba, Jack Johnson, Jill Scott, Phoenix, Herbie Hancock, and Kamasi Washington, among many others. Special presentations by the LA Phil included the Playboy Jazz Festival, film nights with live orchestra, Dudamel and the Stars of Ballet, Cumbia at the Bowl, Mamma Mia! with an all-star cast, a tribute to Ella Fitzgerald and Dizzy Gillespie, and The Muppets' first-ever dedicated live show.

The team of Andrew Hewitt and Bill Silva also brought a star-studded line-up that included concerts from Dead & Company, Lionel Richie, Mariah Carey, Lady Antebellum, Ms. Lauryn Hill & Nas, Depeche Mode, Janet Jackson, Imagine Dragons, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Chance the Rapper and Morrissey.

The Pollstar Awards honor the best of the worldwide concert industry. The awards are peer-voted and winners are determined by the international readership of Pollstar.

Details of the 2018 summer season at the Hollywood Bowl will be announced on Wednesday, February 21, at 10:00 am PST.

About the Hollywood Bowl

One of the largest natural amphitheaters in the world, with a seating capacity of nearly 18,000, the Hollywood Bowl has been the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since its official opening in 1922 and plays host to the finest artists from all genres of music, offering something for everyone. It remains one of the best deals anywhere in Los Angeles; to this day, $1 buys a seat at the top of the Bowl for many classical and jazz performances. In February 2018, the Hollywood Bowl was named Best Major Outdoor Concert Venue for the 14th year in a row at the 29th Annual Pollstar Awards and was awarded the Top Amphitheater prize at the 2017 Billboard Touring Awards. For millions of music lovers across Southern California, the Hollywood Bowl is synonymous with summer.
