Hello June Announce September 28 Album Release Date
Indie rock duo Hello June announced the release of their self-titled debut album on September 28; additionally, the West Virginia natives will be performing with The Lone Bellow at Mountain Stage on Nov 11. The news comes a week after Hello June released the album's second single "Candy Rain," which features the band's signature shimmering new wave guitars paired with a propulsive beat to create a stunning end-of-summer anthem. The duo's released a self-produced video for the new single centered on frontwoman Sarah Rudy painting and exploring a forested landscape. Since releasing their first single, Hello June has caught national attention from outlets such as The Current, who featured lead single"Mars" as a Song of the Day.
Hello June formed in the hills of Morgantown, WV after core members Rudy (guitar/vocals) and Whit Alexander (drums) met as tenants of a particularly communal apartment building. Their debut six-song EP, Spruce, fittingly unfolds as an expression of self-discovery, where languid reflection is never far from catharsis. NPR hailed the EP for its mix of driving, indomitable hooks and ethereal, sustained tones, saying it "displays [Hello June's] blend of bright, blissful rock that shimmers, even throughout its darker moments." The EP's lead single "Dance" was featured in the March 2017 edition of NPR's Heavy Rotation series.
In January 2018, NPR featured Hello June in its inaugural Slingshot initiative - its goal is to highlight exceptional emerging bands. In June, they announced their self-titled debut album and premiered its lead single "Mars" via NPR, who hailed it as, "... a song worthy of national attention." The duo's shimmering indie rock candor has drawn comparisons to Tancred, Beach House, and even earlier Wye Oak.
