Flower Face Releases "Bad Dream", Sets Oct. 15 Tour Launch in LA
Sold-out stops in New York, Chicago, London, Paris and Berlin precede a hometown finale at La Sala Rossa.
Montreal goth-folk artist Flower Face (Ruby McKinnon) has released a new song and video, 'Bad Dream,' out now via Nettwerk.
Since making her musical debut as a teenager, McKinnon has built a devoted following on the strength of songwriting about the dark corners of love. Her 2024 full-length, Girl Prometheus, marked a pivotal moment in her musical career, earning acclaim for her 'grandly avenging buildups' (The New York Times) and melodies detailing 'the extremes of heartbreak and desire' (Stereogum). Now, she shares a new era of her artistry.
On 'Bad Dream,' Flower Face builds on the expansive energy of Girl Prometheus, trading hushed acoustic spaces for a sweeping dream-pop soundscape — layering lush, distorted guitars, ethereal synthesizers, and heavy, shoegazy drums over her signature brutal lyricism. The song explores what happens when you fall so deeply into a fantasy that reality feels like a betrayal. With cutting lines, 'I love you most when you're sleeping / 'Cause when you wake up, it all falls apart', 'Bad Dream' captures the agonizing moment an illusion shatters - leaving you to face the realization that the person you were fighting for never truly existed at all.
Flower Face reflects: '...could you have imagined it all? and if none of it is real, who is to blame? sometimes you fall so deep into this imaginary argument that you forget you have no real opponent, and like in a dream everyone is you, no one acts freely, you are fighting different versions of yourself, and you will never win, and you can project a whole life onto anyone who's in front of you, but as soon as they open their mouth the illusion is shattered, it only works when they're sleeping, it only works when they're leaving, it only works when they're not there at all.'
After a standout performance at All Things Go Toronto and announcing her first headline tour through North America, the UK, and Europe, tickets sold out almost instantly in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Paris, Berlin, and London. Ruby will take the stage at Sommo Festival next month in Canada, with the tour launching on October 15th with a sold-out show at Zebulon in Los Angeles and concluding with a special hometown show in Montreal on March 20th at La Sala Rossa. About Flower Face
Flower Face is the project of Montreal-based singer, songwriter, and multi-disciplinary artist Ruby McKinnon. Known for her tender yet haunting voice and cinematic approach to storytelling, McKinnon creates music that turns heartbreak, grief, and renewal into something luminous and universal.
Classically trained in piano since childhood, she began writing and recording as a teenager, self-producing early releases in true DIY fashion. Over time, Flower Face's music has garnered acclaim from The New York Times, Stereogum, Billboard, and more, earning comparisons to Daughter, Big Thief, and Mazzy Star, while carving out a sound all her own — delicate yet expansive, confessional yet transportive.
Her Nettwerk debut, The Shark in Your Water (2022), introduced a broader audience to her deeply intimate songwriting. Its follow-up, Girl Prometheus, expands her world with 11 tracks that range from hushed ballads to sweeping symphonies, chronicling transformation in the aftermath of heartbreak.
Also a visual artist, McKinnon designs her own cover art and directs her videos, making Flower Face not just a musical project but a fully realized creative universe.
