Everyone's favorite dragapella beautyshop quartet, "The Kinsey Sicks", regales audiences with their twisted version of a holiday musical comedy. Combining a cappella singing, over-the-top drag and plenty of Jewish angst, "The Kinsey Sicks" turn their considerable talents to the global effort of stamping out holiday cheer. In "Oy Vey in a Manger", we find Rachel, Winnie, Trixie, and Trampolina trying to sell off their manger - yes, that manger - before it's foreclosed upon. Crises arise, secrets are revealed, Jewish-Gentile tensions surface, and mayhem ensues - all in glorious four-part harmony.
"Oy Vey" boasts "The Kinsey Sicks" reinterpretations of holiday classics, such as "God Bless Ye Femmy Lesbians," "Satan Baby", and "I'm Dreaming of a Betty White Christmas", plus hilarious Jewish satiric fare, including "Don't Be Happy, Worry", the Chanukah spa classic "I Had a Little Facial" the new Christmas cuisine standard, "Soylent Night."
Becoming a Phenomenon. In July 1994, "The Kinsey Sicks" drew a large and enthusiastic crowd at their first public performance on a street corner in San Francisco's Castro District. Since then,"The Kinsey Sicks" have produced and performed full-length theatrical productions around the country in such prestigious venues as the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco, the Nordstrom Recital Hall in Seattle, the Broward Center in Ft. Lauderdale, the Hobby Center in Houston, the Wheeler Opera House in Aspen and the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.
Off-Broadway. In 2001, the girls produced and starred in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway hit, "DRAGAPELLA! Starring the Kinsey Sicks" at New York's legendary Studio 54. "DRAGAPELLA!" was directed by our very own Glenn Casale (Artistic Director, California Musical Theatre). That production received a nomination for a Lucille Lortel award (the Off-Broadway Tony) as Best Musical and a Drama Desk nomination for Best Lyrics.
