The Paris Committee of Chicago Sister Cities International is sponsoring the Second Annual Paris Jazz Tour and Singers Workshop, bringing singers from different genres together from the U.S., Paris and Croatia to travel to Paris from tonight, June 18-24, 2015, led by Paris Committee member and singer Claudia Hommel.

Singers will take part in a week-long exploration of jazz literacy in song, vocal technique, interpretation of lyrics, performance skills and improvisation. Early registrants from the Chicago area include Ty Cooper, Sue Berke and Barbara Smith.

The workshop is built around a two-tiered program: for experienced jazz singers and for those earlier in their careers. Participants conclude the workshop in the spotlight of one of Paris' prime venues for live jazz. The workshop sessions are based on the Paris-based Jazz Vocal Academy International's curriculum in partnership with Chicago's SongShop Live and Udruga JazzArt. The sessions are led by master teachers Keri Chryst, Claudia Hommel and Maja Savi?.

The tour component offers an exciting lineup of activities to take in the sites of the jazz scene in Paris-from famous locales to hidden gems. The tour includes a dinner concert at Chez Papa jazz club in St Germain-de-Pres; a night at the Cabaret Lapin Agile; a walking tour with Monique Wells about the black experience in jazz-age Paris; an exhibit of Edith Piaf at the National Library; a jam session at Cave du 38RIV; open mic at Café Universel in the Latin Quarter; and a seat at one of the most famous jazz venues, Caveau de la Huchette.

Singers interested in participating are invited to register at www.singersjazzworkshop.com or 773-509-9360. Deadline for registration and deposits is May 1, 2015.
