Review: SUR LA ROUTE on the UES Makes Your Grab and Go Experience Extraordinary

There's nothing in the neighborhood quite like Sur La Route. This Upper East Side grab- and-go on 86th Street features gourmet choices that you will want to bring home, take back to the office, or enjoy on picnics. From salads and signature sandwiches to bagels, soups and pizza selections, they have it all. Their top quality food and great service will make this take-out spot one of your very favorites.

We stopped by on a Saturday morning to pick up some items for breakfast and lunch. Pastries, donuts, muffins, and croissants have been carefully sourced from the city's best bakeries that include Bread Alone, Dough Donuts, Amy's Bakery, Orwashers, Zaro's, and Patisserie Vanessa.

Bagel lovers have discovered a new favorite place with the most authentic NY style bagels along with tempting cream cheeses and spreads that you won't find anywhere else like fig gorgonzola caramelized onion, cheddar jalapeno, tofu, and kale feta.

Their salad station has an array of fresh choices that allow you to create a generous bowl. Start with mesculin, baby spinach, kale, or romaine and select tempting items with proteins, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, grains, seeds, beans, nuts and dried fruits along with a great variety of dressings to customize your salad. We chose mesculin topped with fresh salmon, cherry tomatoes, shrimp, and avocado with creamy balsamic dressing. We also had our salad chopped for the perfect blend. You may want to eat the generous portion alone, but it is also a great size for sharing and pairing with other Sur La Route menu items.

Let's talk pizza. You may think you've found some of the best pizzas in the city, but Sur La Route's pies should be on your list. Sicilian style pan pizzas have a light crust and savory toppings. One slice will never be enough. The Grandma pie is a house favorite but don't miss the Mushroom Truffle, Buffalo Chicken, and the Italian Sausage and Pepperoni.

Check out Sur La Route's daily specials. When we were there, they were offering a Lobster Roll served with chips for $10.99, a real meal deal. Tender, sweet lobster meat was piled high on a toasted butter brioche roll. Other specials include offers like a free 12-ounce soup with the purchase of any sandwich or salad. Specials change all the time, giving you a great reason to return.

Whether it's a barista made coffee, or one of their many bottled beverages, it's easy to find the perfect drink to pair with your food.

Sur La Route knows that their customers want the best food on the go. Even with their speedy service, they give great attention to each and every item they serve.
