Duran Sandwiches in the Flatiron District of Manhattan is not an ordinary sandwich shop. It is a unique gourmet experience where you will enjoy delicious, artfully prepared open-faced sandwiches made with the finest and freshest ingredients. If you haven't been to Duran yet, now is the time. The shop has a welcoming presence on the corner of Madison Avenue and 27th Street where you can stop by and enjoy their fare. Plan a take-out order for your office, home or picnic. And their catering service is an extraordinary choice for celebrations, corporate and private events.

The story behind Duran is truly fascinating. The Duran family has owned and operaTed Bakeries and restaurants for over 100 years in Austria as well other local territories. The first store that specialized in "open faced sandwiches" was started by the Duran brothers, Vladimir and Tomas in Austria in 1969. The brothers are experts in the culinary arts and they currently have seven locations in Vienna and additional stores in Budapest, the Czech Republic and as far as Istanbul, Turkey. Hungarian TV producer, Tamás Szebeni brought the concept to the U.S. He was seeking an alternative to the heavy, double-breaded sandwiches catered on film sets when he came upon a Duran sandwich shop in Budapest. Szebeni was instantly hooked. He loved their sandwiches so much, he made a documentary about the company and, upon moving to New York, partnered with longtime New Yorker and real estate broker, Stephen Grill to bring the first Duran location to New York City, with future expansion being planned across the city and the U.S.

Duran's selection of sandwiches is presented on freshly bakEd White or whole wheat bread made locally by Tubito's Brick Oven Bakery. The breads are the perfect platform for the delicious, inventive toppings. Duran sandwiches are always freshly prepared and there is a remarkable variety that will suit everyone's tastes and dietary preferences including vegetarian and vegan. Gluten-free options can be pre-ordered.

We have some favorites already, but you will want to discover some of your own. We loved the Mozzarella and Tomato, Cucumber and Farmer's Cheese Combo, Spicy Hungarian Salami, Lobster Salad and Egg Salad with Curry, Cucumber and Farmer's Cheese Combo and Mushroom Salad. And don't miss some of the selections that have become customer favorites like the Lobster Salad, Sundried Tomato, Avocado Toast, and Roast Beef.

Each sandwich has an attractive and tasty garnish like a bit of sliced egg, carrot and cucumber, or a piped floret of the Duran creams that make the presentation absolutely outstanding.

For a sweet treat, Duran also offers dessert bites, available for pre-order and catering. The flavors include rum, orange marmalade, dark chocolate with a cherry center, and orange with ground walnuts. Each bite is crafted without sugar and instead with a base of Turkish graham crackers, apricot preserves, and cocoa powder.

Beverages available at Duran include premium Italian selections of Illy Coffee and Espresso, as well as Fonté Tea. Their refreshing fruit cocktail lemonade is made with the juice of oranges, lemons and limes, mint, honey, and sparkling water.

Duran is an extraordinary culinary experience. We guarantee that you will never think of sandwiches the same again.
