John Glover Joins The Drowsy Chaperone April 17

Broadway's Tony Award-winning hit musical The Drowsy Chaperone will welcome Tony Award-winner John Glover (Love! Valour! Compassion!, TV's "Smallville") on April 17th.

Glover will take over the role of "Man in Chair" from the show's Tony Award-winning star and author Bob Martin, who will reprise his role in the upcoming West End production of the hit musical, which begins previews on May 14th at the Novello Theatre in London.

Glover returns to the New York stage, after receiving Drama Desk, Drama League and Lortel Award nominations for his critically acclaimed role in Jon Robin Baitz's play The Paris Letter. He won a 1995 Tony Award for the dual role of John and James Jeckyll in Terrence McNally's play Love! Valour! Compassion!, and also recreated his roles in the film version. A five-time Emmy Award nominee, Glover is known to television audiences for his recurring role as "Lionel Luthor" on the CW series "Smallville."

The most celebrated musical of the 2006 season and the recipient of thirteen major awards, The Drowsy Chaperone received the most Tony Awards of any musical -five in total, including Best Book and Best Score, seven Drama Desk Awards including Best Musical, four Outer Critic's Circle Awards including Outstanding Score and the Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Musical.

The show began previews April 3, 2006 and opened on Broadway on May 1, 2006 at the Marquis Theatre (1535 Broadway).

The Drowsy Chaperone is directed and choreographed by Tony Award-nominee Casey Nicholaw (Spamalot), with music and lyrics by Tony Award winners Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Tony Award-winners Bob Martin and Don McKellar.

John Glover most recently starred on the New York stage to critical acclaim as "Anton Kilgallen" in Jon Robin Baitz's play The Paris Letter Off-Broadway at Roundabout, a role for which he received Drama Desk, Drama League and Lucille Lortel Award nominations. Broadway credits include Love! Valour! Compassion! (Tony and Obie Award), Design For Living, Whodunnit, Frankenstein, The Importance of Being Earnest, Holiday, Chemin De Fer, The Visit, Don Juan and The Great God Brown (Drama Desk Award). Last season, Glover appeared in the world premiere of Terrence McNally's play Some Men at the Philadelphia Theatre Company and received a Barrymore Award nomination. Off-Broadway, Glover received the Bayfield Award for Best Classical Performance for The Winter's Tale. Other Off-Broadway work includes Sorrows and Rejoicings, Oblivion Postponed, Digby, Give Me Your Answer Do, A Scent of Flowers, Rebel Women, The House of Blue Leaves, The Fairy Garden, Subject to Fits, Criminal Minds and Treats. On TV, he is currently on "Smallville," and has earned five Emmy Award nominations for TV roles. Film includes: Payback, Batman and Robin, Love! Valour! Compassion!, Gremlins II, Scrooged, Masquerade, The Chocolate War, Rocket Gilbraltar, 52 Pick-Up, White Nights, The Incredible Shrinking Woman, Melvin and Howard, Julia and Annie Hall.

The Drowsy Chaperone is produced by Kevin McCollum, Roy Miller, Boyett Ostar, Stephanie McClelland, Barbara Freitag and Jill Furman.

The show plays Tuesday – Saturday at 8:00 p.m. with matinees on Wednesday and Saturday at 2:00 p.m. and Sundays at 3:00 p.m.
