Chelsey Green & The Green Project Will Make Washington Performing Arts Main Stage Debut

Billboard-charting recording artist violinist Chelsey Green and her band The Green Project will make their Washington Performing Arts main stage debut on Saturday, May 12, 2018 at 8pm at Sixth & I. Tickets are $25 at washingtonperformingarts.org. Chelsey tears down all stereotypes of the violin and viola by fusing traditional classical technique with popular favorites and enticing original songs in various genres, including R&B, pop, soul, funk, jazz, alternative, hip hop, gospel and more.

As Washington Performing Arts' first-ever Mars Urban Arts Initiative Artist-in-Residence, Chelsey has been a frequent presence in D.C. throughout the 2017/18 season. She has given workshops for young musicians at Suitland High School, broken music from Bach to Beyoncé down to its essence in a sold-out event sponsored by the Washington Performing Arts Junior Board at Republic Restoratives, and has performed at various community events. Chelsey's performance with The Green Project on May 12 will include several new works that will feature on her forthcoming album, to be released in the summer of 2018.

The Green Project was selected as one of nine musical ensembles chosen among over 300 applicants to tour and teach around the world as cultural ambassadors for the 2017 American Music Abroad program presented by the US Department of State. The group toured extensively throughout the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Haiti.

The Green Project released their debut EP, "Still Green: The EP" in April 2012 to rave reviews. Their most recent album, The Green Room, their highly anticipated second release and first full length album debuted on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Album Chart at #22 and #7 on the iTunes Jazz Albums chart.

Dedicated to educating our youth, Chelsey Green and The Green Project spend time devoted to the community by providing a wide range of educational music workshops to city and county schools, after school programs, educational groups and more. The Mars Urban Arts Initiative (MUAI) is a creative platform for Washington Performing Arts and the D.C. community to celebrate and empower local artists through performances, unique educational programs, and interdisciplinary grassroots collaborations that showcase the diversity and vitality of our city.
