In his new book, "The Comprehensive Dictionary of Patron Saints" (published by iUniverse), author Pablo Ricardo Quintana creates a well-rounded reference list of saints and the people or subjects they are patrons of.

Arranged alphabetically by saint and subject, "The Comprehensive Dictionary of Patron Saints" includes more than 2,500 listings of saints from all over the globe. Quintana also lists 150 titles for the Blessed Virgin Mary, which reference more than 7,000 invocations.

Each entry lists the saint's name and what or whom he or she protects. In times of sickness, trouble or uncertainty, readers will know which saints to call on for help. For example, jurors can evoke the protection of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of jurors, and beekeepers can pray to Saint Ambrose, the patron saint of bees and their keepers.

"People are constantly making inquiries on the Internet as to who is the patron saint of various subjects," Quintana says. "This book is the most comprehensive listing available for this topic."
