The Marvelous Wonderettes Plays the Chenango River Theatre, 8/19-9/12

By:

After a record setting 19 month award-winning run in Los Angeles, The Marvelous Wonderettes opened to rave reviews from the New York critics, running off Broadway another 15 months there (one of the longest off Broadway runs in history). Now the Binghamton area is one of the first in the country to get a chance to see the hottest new musical in the land.

A cotton candy-colored non-stop pop musical, The Marvelous Wonderettes features the iconic sounds of the 50's and 60's in a journey back to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where the Wonderettes - Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy - are four young girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts. Brimming with such classic hits as "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party", "Leader of the Pack" and "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)," The Marvelous Wonderettes is a high-octane musical blast from the past as we learn about the Wonderettes lives and loves.

Co-Produced by Cool 100, NBT Bank and the Oakdale Mall, you've never had this much fun at a prom, and you will never forget this must-take musical trip down memory lane. And just wait ‘til we get to Act 2, ten years later at their high school reunion.

Backstage wrote "Don't buy a ticket - buy two! It's a show you'll want to see twice! A laugh-a-minute songfest!" The New York Times calls the show "effervescent, irresistible and an utter charm," while Variety called it "charming and funny" with "four gifted comedians." The Associated Press raved "you won't find a more delightful girl group. These irrepressible, bubbly Wonderettes are singing their hearts out in this charming, fast-paced musical. Beautiful singing, well-honed timing, often poignant and highly entertaining!"

This production comes to Chenango River Theatre directly from a sold out run at Shadowland Theatre, where the production broke all box office records in that company's 28-year history. The show runs August 19 - September 12. Performances are Thursdays through Saturdays at 7:30, plus Sunday matinees at 2:00pm, at Chenango River Theatre, 991 State Highway 12, Greene NY (just 20 minutes north of Binghamton). Tickets are $21 Thursdays, $23 Fridays & Sundays, and $27 on Saturdays. All performances start on time and there is no late seating. The box office opens one half hour before curtain.

The 24 Hour Reservation Line accepts reservations at any time at 607 656-8499 (TIXX). Box office hours: Wed-Sat, noon-5pm. Tickets may be charged to MasterCard, Visa or Discover. Performances on August 19 & 21 are already sold out. For more information: www.chenangorivertheatre.org.
