PSIQUE, a multidisciplinary show from Chile, will be at The Space at Irondale in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, on Friday & Saturday, September 15-16 at 7:30pm.
PSIQUE combines live music, contemporary dance, and multimedia to create an immersive, sensory experience. The theater transforms into the universe of PSIQUE, (“psyche” in Spanish), inviting the audience to participate in a ritual that is both personal and collective: to look within.
The music, composed by Rebecca Levi (US/Chile), Constanza García (Chile), and Gonzalo Cárdenas (Mexico), and accompanied by Marcelo Bellas (Chile/Uruguay), takes its inspiration from different musical roots, from the Western classical tradition to Andean flutes and Afro-Cuban percussion. Multimedia and projection artist Iñaki Muñoz transforms the set into galaxies, fire, and watery worlds, and these images also map onto the bodies of the dancers, Olivia Marina and Marcel Torres Deik. The director, Paulo Uribe, creates an immersive effect by using smells to stimulate the audience and amplify the senses.
PSIQUE premiered in December 2022 in Chile, with funding from the Ministry of Culture and Ibermúsicas.
