San Diego Lovers Of Musical Theatre! Sing Along With THE MIKADO, 9/23

When a work of musical theatre becomes so beloved and well-known, such a part of the cultural landscape, that aficionados sitting in the audience can barely resist the urge to sing along with the songs they know and love so well-why not let them, and even encourage them?

That's the inspiration behind Bodhi Tree Concerts' next concert, a Sing-Along performance of Gilbert & Sullivan's classic farce THE MIKADO. The cast may be top-notch, including Michael Sokol as Koko, Alvin Almazan as Nanki-Poo, Megan Schulze as Yum-Yum, Sharmay Musacchio as Katisha, and Walter DuMelle as Pooh-Bah, but that doesn't mean they will mind at all when audience members join in the fun. The hijinks are kept in hand by music director Janie Prim.

Don't have a Mikado chorus score lying around to bring to the sing-along? That's okay! Chorus scores will be sold at the door!

As for the plot: In the town of Titipu, a young man, Nanki-Poo, has been sentenced to death for violating the Mikado's law against flirting... so begins arguably the most popular of Gilbert & Sullivan's classic and hilarious tales. "Three Little Maids," "Tit-Willow," and "I've Got a Little List" are just a few of the favorite songs from this masterpiece.

As with all performances by Bodhi Tree Concerts, all proceeds from this concert will go to support a local nonprofit-in this case, ElderHelp of San Diego, whose mission is to ensure San Diego seniors can remain independent and live with dignity in their own homes.
