AS I WALKED OUT ON THE STREETS OF THE CASTRO to Mark Dialogue with Three Chords' 200th Play

Indie theater company Dialogue with Three Chords will conclude their 15th year and the Spring 2026 season on June 25th with their 200th original play. "As I Walked Out on the Streets of the Castro" features three short plays on the theme of "Southern Pride" which reclaim that phrase, and honor the LGBTQIA+ legacy of country music.

Written by Stephen Gracia and directed by Michael LoPorto, the show starts at 8pm at Brooklyn's Industry City at the Tom Kane Theatre at 51 35th St, Brooklyn, NY 11232 presented by brooklynONE Productions (bkONE).

In "Worse Things Happen at Sea," following a horrific act of violence, a young Appalachian man comes out to his father.

"Tie My Heart to the Hitchin' Post (So It Don't Runaway with You)" finds a country music star opening the first Lesbian bar in Nashville, and a group of LGBTQ+ Country songwriters reckon with the genre's history in "A Radical History of Missing Pronouns, Double-Entendres, and Novelty Songs."

D3C formed in the summer of 2011, when Gracia and LoPorto joined forces. Together, they aim to strip away the barriers between audiences and fresh, Original Theatre. In contrast to the typical theatrical process of workshopping a play behind closed doors before the public is able to see a performance, D3C has a "one-and-done" process.

In the week leading up to a D3C performance, actors come together for just one rehearsal, lending an immediacy to the work that is often lost during a traditional development period. This also allows for the participation of a diverse and ever-growing group of artists who donate their time and talent to their performances.

This 15th D3C season is the company's third year in residency with bkONE at the Tom Kane Theatre after over a decade of "punk rock basement theatre" performances presented in non-traditional spaces.
