Wendy Liebman and John Fugelsang Set for SHARE A LAUGH Fundraiser, 5/16

Community Works presents SHARE A LAUGH, its 6th Annual Fundraiser to support its 32 member organizations working for social justice, with comedians Wendy Liebman, John Fugelsang, Jimmy Tingle, Chris Tabb, Kelly MacFarland, and Bethany Van Delft on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at 7:30pm at the Somerville Theatre (55 Davis Square, Somerville, MA). Tickets are now on sale online and at the Somerville Theatre Box Office for $30, and a discount rate of $8 for students with a valid college ID at the door.

Proceeds from SHARE A LAUGH will benefit Community Works who for the past 30 years have supported its member organizations through networking, training, technical assistance, and pooled resources. The funds strengthen not just one organization, but an entire community of social justice organizations working for affordable housing, quality healthcare and civil rights.

The Harvard Crimson calls her the "goddess of comedy", but she disparagingly refers to herself on Twitter as a "Comedian/Writer/Shitty Stepmom." Wendy (@WendyLiebman) has been doing stand-up comedy for more than 25 years after taking a class called "How to be a Stand-up Comedian" at The Cambridge Center for Adult Education. She has since been a regular on the Late Show with David Letterman, The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Her comedy special Taller on TV premiered on Showtime in 2011. In 1996 she was the recipient of the American Comedy Award for Best Female Standup, and in 2010 she was clue #23 down in the New York Magazine crossword puzzle.

"Wendy is not only the funniest woman I know, but she is incredibly kind and generous with her time in support of our fundraiser SHARE A LAUGH," said Fran Froehlich, executive director, Community Works. "Because of Wendy, the stars of stand-up comedy are taking to the stage in support of the important work that Community Works and our 32 member organizations offer the Boston community in support of social justice."

Wendy will be joined by John Fugelsang (@JohnFugelsang) who is known for his intelligent humor, which has earned him critical acclaim and recognition for his work as a stand-up comedian, TV host and actor. In addition to his regular appearances on Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, John has been a contributor to the Huffington Post, has acted on on some of America's highest rated TV programs including CSI, was a host for ABC's America's Funniest Home Videos, and in January 2013 replaced Eliot Spitzer as host of Viewpoint on Current TV.
