Un-Common Theatre Company Announces Boston Children's Theatre Festival Events

By:

On Sunday, July 15th 2012, theatre lovers of all ages will be joining hundreds of Boston area children and teens at the 5th annual CBACT Children's Theatre Festival, hosted this year by the Jewish Community Centers of Greater Boston in Newton, MA, home of JCC Kaleidoscope Camp and JCC Showstoppers. This full day of theatre includes interactive workshops and live performances from children's theatres throughout the Greater Boston area -- one of which is Mansfield/Foxboro's Un-Common Theatre Company.

"Once again we are excited to have our kids participate in this wonderful day-long event. It's a fabulous opportunity for theatre kids and their families from all over the Boston area to meet each other and find that they have so much in common." said Un-Common Board Member and Production Manager Chris Lowey.  The Un-Common Theatre Company will present an hour of Improvisation directly after lunch at the festival as well as an audition workshop for parents and children in the morning. Un-Common will round out the afternoon with an excerpt from their Young Performer's production of Disney's Aladdin Jr..  "Each year Un-Common has brought down the house with their Improv Soup troupe," said CBACT president Tara Brooke Watkins.  "We're looking forward to having them bring even more offerings to our festival this year."

The event is the highlight of the summer for Boston area children's theatres, as future theatre artists and audiences from the greater Boston area come together to collaborate, perform, and celebrate the world of the theatre arts. Featuring live performances, interactive workshops for all ages, even a lunch time musical theatre sing-a-long, the 2012 Children's Theatre Festival is a great way to beat the summer heat for kids and families.

The public is welcome to this fun-filled day of theatre.  Children and teens are invited to participate in workshops such as "Puppet making," "Hip Hop Dance," "Improvisation," "Creating a Play" and more.  (For a complete list of offerings and participation Theatre Companies see www.CBACT.org ).  Performances include Once on this IslandAnything Goes, and Charlotte's Web.  Throughout the day, students of all ages may choose to watch a performance or attend a workshop.

2009's festival brought national attention to this annual event, as Rob Hopper of National Youth Theatre said "Not content with rallying the states together to launch the American Revolution, now Boston is leading the way toward uniting youth theatres."

The children's theatre festival is the annual event of CBACT – the Consortium of Boston Area Children's Theatres - a first of its kind nonprofit group dedicated to the collaboration of children's theatre groups in the Boston area. More information is available at WWW.CBACT.ORG

The event is set for July 15, 2012, at the JCC in Newton, MA, located at 333 Nahanton St. Newton, MA 02459.  Admission for the day is $20, or $5 per show; all workshops included in the ticket price. Lunch is also available onsite and can be purchased early, so families can spend a full day at the festival conveniently. (Vegetarian only please). There is plenty of free parking available. Tickets and more information are available online at www.cbact.org.
