The Berkshire Room and the Second West Town Bakery to open Inside the ACME Hotel Company in Early June

By:

The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group owners Greg Mohr and Scott Weiner are slated to open The Berkshire Room and the second location of West Town Bakery inside the ACME Hotel Company (15 East Ohio Street) in River North in early June.

Mohr and Weiner have partnered with Gene Kornota and Anthony Klok of Neighborhood Development Corporation - managing partners of the ACME Hotel Company - to open the Berkshire Room and the second location of West Town Bakery inside ACME. Mohr and Weiner are responsible for the concept, execution, and day-to-day operations of The Berkshire Room and West Town Bakery inside ACME.

The Berkshire Room will be a craft cocktail lounge located directly inside the ACME lobby. The Berkshire Room's name comes from The Berkshire Hotel which once occupied the original hotel space where ACME now sits from the 1920s thru the 1950s.

Design-wise, The Berkshire Room will marry the aesthetic of an old-world cocktail lounge with contemporary, urban touches. Expect whiskey crate walls, a bar front made from overlapping leather belts, and the original and rare terrazzo composite flooring from The Berkshire Hotel that was uncovered during demolition of the space. The Berkshire Room will seat approximately 70.

The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group is still interviewing to fill the position of head mixologist/bar manager of The Berkshire Room. Expect craft cocktails and tight, esoteric craft beer and wine lists to dominate the spirits program at The Berkshire Room.

The Berkshire Room will feature about ten elevated cocktail lounge bites including fresh-shucked oysters and bison tartare on its food menu.

The West Town Bakery outpost inside ACME is an offshoot of the West Town Bakery & Diner - a 3-Star Certified Green Restaurant located at 1916 West Chicago Avenue. The West Town Bakery outpost inside ACME will serve organic, local, and sustainable pastries, baked goods, new grab-and-go sandwiches, and ACME-only specials created by new executive pastry chef Chris Teixeira.

Teixeira started working at West Town Bakery & Diner in January 2013. Before joining The Fifty/50 Restaurant Group, Teixeria spent the previous 27 months as the pastry chef de partie at four-star dining landmark Sixteen in the Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago.

Organic and fair trade Chicago-based Passion House Coffee Roasters coffee and espresso, Rare Tea Cellars loose leaf teas, and fresh-squeezed juices will round out the West Town Bakery beverage program.
