SWEET PRINCE Northeast Tour to Launch Fall 2026 with Boston, NYC Stops

Junkyard Shakespeare and Culture Lab LIC will present a Northeast tour of sweet prince, a one-woman interactive adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet, beginning September 29.

The fall 2026 tour will make stops in Boston, Scranton, Brooklyn, Queens and Portland, Maine, concluding October 11.

Sweet prince uses a pared-down version of Shakespeare's text to explore depression, grief and what it means to be considered “mad,” while inviting audience members to participate as the play's missing characters.

In Shakespeare's Hamlet, the title character recruits a group of actors to help prove his uncle's guilt in his father's murder. Sweet prince turns that device outward, with its Hamlet recruiting members of the audience to help her tell the story. Audience members may be called upon to act and participate as the performance unfolds.

The tour will begin September 29 at 7 p.m. at Boston Center for the Arts in Boston, Massachusetts. The production will then play the Scranton Fringe Festival in Scranton, Pennsylvania, October 2 at 7:30 p.m., October 3 at 9 p.m. and October 4 at 3:30 p.m.

The New York engagements will include The RAT NYC in Brooklyn on October 5 at 7 p.m. and Culture Lab LIC in Queens on October 9 at 7:30 p.m. The tour will conclude October 11 at 7 p.m. at the Store Front Theater at Portland Stage in Portland, Maine.

The production is co-produced by Culture Lab LIC and supported by donors through Fractured Atlas.

Sweet prince was developed during a residency at 33 Hawley St. in Northampton, Massachusetts, in February 2025, followed by an artistic residency at Mechanics Hall in Worcester in March 2026.

The current version of the production premiered in April 2026 at the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance in Williamstown, Massachusetts, as part of Elsewhere Shakespeare's North County Shakespeare Festival.
