Written by Kevin Young and adapted / directed by the Black Rep's Artistic Director, Donald King, Black Maria will open in previews on February 1st, with opening night on February 9th.

Black Maria is billed as "noir poetry" and tells the story of a down-and-out eye who falls for a beautiful, but dangerous woman.

The story is re-imagined by Young and King as a "noir noir," or a black noir – acknowledging the fact that American noir films claimed to tell a story about disenfranchised characters in an urban underworld, but rarely portrayed non-white characters.

Joining Aaron Andrade (Yellowman) and Bob Jaffe (Suicide in B Flat), in the cast, will be Alexis Brown, in her stage debut.
