LO-FI LOWDOWN Comes to Oberon, 1/27

The Boston premiere of Lo-Fi Lowdown, a double bill of epic old-timey proportions, comes to Oberon (2 Arrow Street Cambridge, MA) for one night only. This 1940's themed cabaret/radio show plays on Sunday, January 27th at 7pm. Tickets ($18) are available at the door and online.

Act One: Jazz Noir, by Bremner Duthie
Bremner sings songs from the era of Film Noir. Songs from the dangerous night on the dark side of the street, like a burst of passion on a lazy afternoon, leaving violence in their wake.

Bremner was born on Long Island, NY, and grew up first in New York, then Northern Scotland and Vancouver, Canada. He studied at McGill Performance program and continued his studies at the Centre for New Music on the West Coast, and in New York City with acclaimed voice instructor Cornelius Reid. In his career he has sung operatic roles, been the artistic director of contemporary music theater company, performed in musical theater and worked at Disneyland. Now he performs mostly in the intimate performance space of Cabaret and in Jazz clubs, and performs his award winning one-man musical theatre shows around the world. He has performed in venues that vary from 3000 seat arenas in Tokyo, to improvised atelier loft theaters in Paris and Edinburgh. Most of his shows fit into a suitcase. www.bremnerduthie.com

Boston native cum NYC comedienne Tanya O'Debra brings her award winning play, Radio Star, to Oberon for her first hometown show.

Watch (but mainly listen) as Tanya O'Debra lends her voice to 10 characters while simultaneously staging live sound effects in this naughty 1940's radio detective spoof. Just like the golden age of radio. Only dirtier.

Radio Star won Best of the San Francisco Fringe Festival. It was nominated for Best English Language Production and Just For Laugh's Best Comedy at the Montreal Fringe Festival. Published by Original works, it was also nominated for Outstanding Full Length Script and Outstanding Actress in a Leading role at the New York Innovative Theater Awards. TANYA O'DEBRA is a writer/performer/funny lady. One half of the ECNY Award nominated comic sister duo, The O'Debra Twins, Miss O'Debra has spread mirth and filth all over NYC. Their annual O'Debbie Awards garnered a Best of New York Award from The Village Voice. Her play Fuck You won The Excellence Award in Overall Production at Fringe NYC. Published by Original Works, her play Radio Star has been produced all over the world, receiving numerous awards and accolades. Winner of the Miss Fag Hag Pageant, other theater credits include Patrice O'Debra in Straight Up Vampire (Joe's Pub), The Evil Queen in Snow White (The New Acting Company) and Amanda McCloud in The Ultimate Stimulus (Dixon Place). Her newest Play, Shut Up, Emily Dickinson, is currently in development. ANDREW MAURIELLO, COMPOSER
A composer with over 15 years of experience including his studies at Berklee College of Music, Mr. Mauriello has been incorporating his songwriting into a variety of settings with a vast spectrum of musical styles. He has performed at Boston's Symphony Hall, crowded basements in Philadelphia, sold out shows at the late CBGB's in New York City, and seemingly everywhere in between. His music for Radio Star garnered a NYIT Award nomination for Outstanding Original Music.

OBERON is a thriving incubator for emerging artists to imagine new projects that could only exist in this exciting club theater environment. Hundreds of artists and performance groups brought work to the space each year. OBERON regularly features local performers including aerialists, beat poets, food artists, tap dancers, gender-bending sketch troupes, comedians, hula-hooping burlesquers, and pop-and-lock human statues to name but a few.
