Disney's TARZAN Begins 7/17 at Steps Off Broadway

By:

Bellingham's own STEPS THEATRE will be closing its doors on July 19th . Disney's Tarzan will be the final show performed under Steps Theatre! The king of the apes and his lady love will swing to the stage in this adaptation of the Disney film. Based on Disney's epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by TONY Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang. High-flying excitement and hits like the Academy Award winning "You'll Be in My Heart" as well as "Son of Man" and "Two Worlds" make Tarzan and unforgettable theatrical experience. Tarzan was originally produced on Broadway by Disney Theatrical Productions and is now presented through special arrangements with Music Theater International (MTI).

Washed up on the shores of West Africa, an infant boy is taken in and raised by gorillas, who name him Tarzan. Apart from striving for acceptance from his ape father, Tarzan's life is mostly monkey business until a human expedition treks into his tribe's territory and he encounters creatures like himself for the first time. Tarzan struggles to navigate a jungle, thick with emotion as he discovers his animal upbringing with his human instincts.

This family musical includes flying effects, professional actors, and beautiful set design. Tarzan has two local actors in this production. Stephanie Urko of Wrentham is playing Jane, and Michael Skrezk of Worcester is playing Tarzan. Both Urko and Skrezk recently performed in Mary Poppins at the Grove Theater in Upland, California. This production is directed by Bill Steele of Florida. Bill performed last year in the Greater Tuna production at Steps Theatre. Tarzan is choreographed by Bellingham's own Keith Mottola. Steps continue to raise the bar each summer.

All tickets are $20.00 (plus a small service fee of $1.25 online or $2.00 at the door). Tickets are available online at www.stepsoffbroadway.com. Disney's Tarzan will be performed on 17th, 18th at 7:30 PM and July 19th at 2:00 PM at Steps Off Broadway's own theatre located at 799 South Main Street, Bellingham, MA 02019. The July 19th show will be geared to the hearing impaired. Don't miss this final show!
