Do y'all think this has any chance of reaching the East coast? I'm dying to see it.

I saw THE FLY today and wish I could get my money back - it's godawful. The music is mediocre, the staging is static and the libretto is embarassingly bad.

"It does what a musical is supposed to do; it takes you to another world. And it gives you a little tune to carry in your head. Something to take you away from the dreary horrors of the real world. A little something for when you're feeling blue. You know?"

That's too bad, I remember Howard Shore's score from the movie being quite good. Were the Fly costumes still disgusting to the point of kick-assery? I can be a shallow sumbich so if they could possibly put anything as awesomely grotesque as the movie on a stage, it would still be worth it for me.

After reading the New York Times' mixed-to-negative review this morning I actually kinda want to see it more...

I've been offered $89.00 tickets and I'm trying to decided if I should see it or not. I already am seeing 9 to 5 and Walking with the Dino's this month...

Think I should go for it?

"In Le Monde ... Renaud Machart ... lamented, somewhat oddly, that the movie’s gory close-ups of decomposing flesh could not be reproduced on stage." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/07/05/arts/music/05fly.html?fta=y

BWNUT, I was sorry to read that, but in the New York times today there was a picture that confirms that they go prettty far with it anyway.

Well, it's an opera, and it's getting mixed reviews, so I don't think that is any possibility. It does seem to be an awfully huge underaking/investment for a show that's running like a coupla days in Paris and L.A.

I saw it last night...not good at all! Cheese dialogue with the audience laughing in the wrong places, the music was awful and the poor cast was doing their best to sing thru an uninspiring score. My least favorite opera and I am very open minded.

I guess I'll save my money then.

Thanks for the warning.

I didn't think there was a bass/baritone alive that looked like that guy in the NYT. If his voice ever runs out, there's several other things I believe he could do to make money. He-he.
