I just got back from NYC today to meet my friend muscle23ft1 (on vacation to NYC) and saw SPAMALOT. Sorry no 10/10 Report on it..I did not take photos and I dont feel like writting anything bec. I am soo psyched about something.. I got a call from the Delacorte box office this pm. They confirmed that I got 2 reserved seatings for this Saturday (8/16) for HAIR! (I got my tickets thru Summer Supporter donation program) Wow! I will finally see HAIR on Central Park! ~plus I will catch Jonathan Groff! -of course weather permitting! or else I have to reschedule it again for the following saturday!
Also I got a lot of new photos of the Henry Miller Theater- I will post it tommorow, and had a chance to talk to several construction workers and according to them- the theater will be ready by Dec. 2008! I hope so! I took tons of photos. One guys even told me that the inside is almost done with almost 1,000 seats. I was soo tempted to ask.. Is there a way I can see the inside? lol!
and yes I will post a 10/10 Report on HAIR next Monday 8/18 complete with the whole nine yards, stage door pics...etc...and if you plan to see HAIR this Saturday, dont forget to say "hi" to us! and for those who wont get a chance to see it this summer- I will bring the experience to you guys on 8/18 thru my 10/10 Report!
btw.. Thanks for all the poster who repeatedly encourage me to see HAIR! I am soo excited.. Ive never been so energize since XANADU & PASSING STRANGE!
and if youre wonderin' IF LIKE Spamalot?
It was horrible! Drew Lachey can't sing! I love Marin Mazzie from RAGTIME & KISS ME KATE. She has a wonderful voice, but definitely wrong for the role! I miss Sara Ramirez. Stephen Collins was equivaly awful! I am not really not into SPAMALOT. I dont know what possessed me to revisit the show! I GOT a headache after the show! I took two Exceedrin during the bus stop over in Hartford, CT! I am not kidding...I really got a headache! I guess.. that's why I wont write.. I REALLY have nothing GOOD to say! Let's just leave it that way!
oh well... I wont revisit anymore long-running shows! after this and RENT! lesson learned!
Way to go Jaystarr! I'm psyched for you and look forward to your review. I'm planning to spend the morning and early afternoon in line on 8/20. It will be with Christopher instead of Jonathan (i think)...but I think it will be cool to see Christopher...since I liked him so much as Baldwin...and Berger is a totally different character. BTW, I love Marin M, and she is 3 billion times better then the last Lady of the Lake (i think she was a transplant from the London production). Enjoy!

I tried to PM you but you don't accept them. I was like "okay it can't be that random that someone has GATOR in their s/n" So maybe you can message me or something and we can chat a bit! Updated On: 8/10/08 at 12:04 PM
Don't get me wrong~Marin has a beautiful voice and sang beautifully. Its just that I was not impressed with her comedic skills. Its seems to be that's it was forced. I only saw SPAMALOT twice (1st with the original cast w/o Tim Curry- he was out the day I saw it) and I should just left it there. I should not revisited the show~ Its already STALE, considering its only 3 yrs old! My point is MAMMA MIA was still potent and entertaining when I saw it last January. I will post some photos and playbill later but no stage door photos. I did not stage door bec. I was not happy with the production & the present cast! I left immediatley.. I actually was contemplating of walking out during intermission, but I remember that the ACT 2 was more intertaining, so I stayed but left immediately after the last song, I did not wait for Curtain Call.
Edit: Drew Lachey danced beautifully, but he sings just regular, not a standout, nothing special. I totally forgot that he was not the main vocal singer in 98 Degress (which I like a lot~my fav boy bad) its his brother Nick & Jeff.
Yup, Dolly. Stephen Collins still look good for his age.
BTW- Just bec. I got so much pm requests to scan my playbill. I guess people here love to read Playbill. Here is it (see below) I was actually suprised that the playbill is still colored after 3 years. Also since not all here are from NYC. I will post some photos that I took from Shubert Theater featuring the marquee of SPAMALOT. Again, sorry no 10/10 Report! ~ j*
Sorry you didn't have fun at Spamalot. I actually did go back in March and enjoyed it. However, I do believe you with the current cast, although I have not seen them. When I heard that Stephen Collins and Drew Lachey were going to be in it, I really expected it to turn into a train wreak.
And whoever mentioned the last Lady of the Lake, that was Hannah Waddingham, and yes, she was from the London production. She was very good, but some of the songs were slowed down and I just didn't feel them as well as when I heard Sara Ramirez singing on the cast recording.

Nobody can touch Sara as the lady of the lake, but both Hannah and Marin were definitely up to the role when I saw them, though Hannah had the edge because she's naturally funnier (the less said about the understudies I've seen in the role, the better).
The Playbill was b/w for a while, not sure how long, but they changed it to colour again shortly after Clay joined the cast.
Personally..I think Marin Mazzie's Rendition of The Song That Goes Like This (reprise in Knights of the Round Table) was not good at all. As I mentioned, her vocal is just superb, but she was not funny at all~like Sara Ramirez-the part where they introduced her.. as the Lady of the lady-- with that part---with improvisation as mama see mamacusa... it was really painful! her comic timing was really forced and it lose most of the very aspect of the song.
Stephen Collins- he can sing, but like Marin- he was not very funny! totally wrong as King Arthur.
Drew Lachey- His "Always Look on the Bright Side" was really bad! his voice is just average~ you can tell specially when the knights joined him in the chorus though he danced very well~but his overall performance- not even as half as good as Michael McGrath as Patsy.
congrats on getting your Hair tix and here's hoping that the weather will be gorgeous here on Saturday night.
you mentioned your surprise that the Spamalot Playbill cover was still in color. why is that? I always thought (assumed) that if a show opted to do a color Playbill cover, that it would always have a color Playbill cover. I guess I don't go to enough shows later in their run. can you explain?
Most shows start out in color but later on switch to Black & White, because color Playbills cost the producers additional money.
B&W Playbills are printed free of charge.
Roundabout and MTC always use B&W Playbills from start to finish.
LCT always uses color from start to finish.
But most commercial productions start in color but later on switch to B&W to save money.

thanks for clarifying that. no surprise that color is more expensive. I just didn't know who paid for it. I prefer the 'traditional' Black & White covers anyway.
