Knowing this show is closing, and having rec'd the reviews it did, I was not looking forward to seeing it. My husband and I had 2nd row, center seats---which I think was one of the the big differences in potential enjoyment level. I really was moved by this show----actually in tears at the end. Being that close, I was able to see the incredible emotions in Faith's face. She was just amazing! My personal feeling is that the extent of the music got in the way of the story---(too bland & too much). I also feel that this show would have played better off-Bdwy---a more intimate experience. (My husband was more bored---he spent alot of time watching the conductor flip music.) :) Again, IMO---I enjoyed it-----thought Tom Wopat had a much deeper range than I've ever seen (Annie GYG and, of course, the Dukes boys)--- Harvey F was the comic relief---I really liked his character and his performance. I'm glad I got to see this producion before it closes.
So would you recommend it as a back up plan to rush for my dad and me if we don't with the Wicked lottery? (He's seen a lot of the other stuff playing on tours and we will have seen Gypsy the night before.)

WICKED and A CATERED AFFAIR are two drastically different types of shows.
Maybe you should rush THE LITTLE MERMAID if you don't win the WICKED lotto.

I agree ----- Wicked is a big show---fills the house. ACA is a small, intimate production. They really don't compare. I enjoyed each one, but in a much different way.
jordangirl, while you and i have completely DIFFERENT tastes in Broadway shows, i would say go ahead and try this show out. i actually enjoyed it a lot more than i thought i would and that's mostly because i went in expecting a flop and got more than i bargained for. i, too, was crying by the end.
My sister is the one who wants to see Wicked. We have tickets for her and my mom. We figured we'd try the lottery for 2 tickets and then all 4 of us could see it (my dad's pretty neutral on seeing it since it'll be in Nashville in 2009 and my parents usher at TPAC, so they'll see it then). If/when we lose lottery, I've just been trying to think of something else to see with him.
And thanks WBAF, but I've seen TLM and really don't want to again, nor does my father have any interest in that one.
Thanks folkboy. :)

Shows in the 2010 Season for me. 101 Dalmations tour - Jan 24th, Xanadu Tour - Mar 9th and 10th, Wicked - May 14th, Legally Blonde - June 12th:::::::Upcoming - South Pacific, Young Frankinstein (Two Cities) Rock of Ages (Two Cities) Shrek (3 Cities) Les Mis, DreamGirls, Spring Awakening, Color Purple, and 9 to 5!
Student rush. $26.50 (I believe). Hasn't seemed like it's a problem to get it even up to curtain from what others have said on here. Some have reported front row, but others have said whatever's available.

Justafan, I'm so glad to hear you enjoyed it. It is kind of a shame that it played the Walter Kerr; it just didn't fit. Off-Broadway would have been beautiful. Or had, say, XANADU not existed and it had played the Helen Hayes, things would be different. I so look forward to the many regional/community theatre productions this tender musical will receive in coming years.

Justafan, I am happy to see when other people fall for ACA. I found it very moving and wonderful...and yeah, I was crying in many places too. I wish I had been in your seats. I was in the second row of the mezz and felt so close to everything, but I can only imagine what my reaction would have been from your perspective. I wish I could see it again before it closes, yet I have no time in July to make it happen.
I've been thinking about this show all day and the intense emotions that were dealt with and felt. Very well done. Faith had tears streaming down her face----just so riveting. Tom had such pain in his expressions---- I couldn't speak for a while after leaving the theater---the emotions I felt for these characters were so strong. I really never expected to respond this way. I wish it would go to a smaller theater----I really think it would play much longer---but...
