It got really good reviews, top grossing play, better than any shows nominated for revivals (based on reviews only, I don't watch plays), they're making a movie, great actors (ANIKA!). Why?

Other an acting nomination for Anika Noni Rose, I don't think it deserved any nominations.

Had James Earl Jones been petitioned to be put in the featured actor category instead of leading, he would not only have been nominated, but probably would have won. The same thing happened with the previous revival with Ned Betty. Had he been in the featured category he likely would have won, but he was kept in the leading category because his name was above the title, and he was overlooked (perhaps out of confusion).

Because it didn't really deserve any nominations.

I don't think Jones deserved to or would have won.

The production was horribly misdirected and the only saving grace was the radiant Anika Noni Rose, who was unjustly ignored in the nominations. Out of all those far more famous actors standing next to her on stage, she is the one exuding real star power.
