"Y'know, I think Bertolt Brecht was rolling in his grave."
-Nellie McKay on the 2006 Broadway production of The Threepenny Opera, in which she played Polly Peachum
Why couldn't they move the production to February? I mean, I understand there are a dozen factors involved but to have fresh Oscar-winner Javier Bardem starring in this project would have given so much cache and quality to the film. Not to mention the fact that he is IDEAL for the role. Hopefully, now they'll look at Banderas and not Russell Crowe or Ewan McGregor both of whom I feel are wrong for the part. Johnny Depp is the only other name that I like for the role, but really, Bardem was the best option and it's sad that it couldn't be done. Am I the only one who feels that this project is sorta doomed? First, Catherine Zeta-Jones dropped out allegedly because she did not think the script was up-to-par. Second, filming is canceled due to the WGA strike after the project had been put on the fast track. Third, Manghella is brought in to fix the script. Then, the great Anthony Manghella passes away. Now this?! It's crazy. I want this film to happen so badly but it sorta seems like it's not meant to.
"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"
Moving filming to February could mean rearranging the schedules of the other key members of the cast...unless there was another underlying reason as to why he dropped out.
Why do I have a feeling we might not actually get this movie?

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

You're quite right. I'll never be the worst director in American Film History. I guess I'll just have to live with that.

Back to topic. I really hope this film gets made, but only if it's good. Bugs me to hear about all these setbacks. But it seems like the studio is behind it because it fits the Chicago format.

Fair enough. Life is too short for me to keep popping up on these Rob Marshall-related threads and trashing him. Enjoy his films, y'all.
