First of all, I don't see why this is becoming about race at all. "In The Heights" is not a show about race, it's a show about a community who becomes a family. That's pretty universal, and it has nothing to do with what color the characters are.
I wasn't a huge fan of the show, but I definitely enjoyed it. And I don't see how one could think the choreography is a one-trick pony. The cell phone dance sequence alone was just so clever and I think the choreography (and the cast doing it) just abounds with energy. I really liked the score too. Act 1 was great. Act 2 was cliche.
I don't get what race has to do with any of this. I am hispanic and I think IN THE HEIGHTS is simply lame. Just lame. Whatever color it is. Because I love musical theater and it is underdeveloped musical theater - that's all.
