If anyone is going to be in the Maryland/Pennsylvania area at the beginning of March--my alma mater is producing the world premiere of a new musical, BRING ME GIANTS, an adaptation of "Cyrano de Bergerac" (I know, I know, it's been tried before, but not like this!). The music is by Ivan Sherman, who was a rehearsal pianist on Broadway in the 1940s and 1950s and served as Jean Stapleton's personal accompanist for 11 years. Lots of swordfighting and a dozen new songs--the local "buzz" has been wonderful so far. From March 5th through March 8th at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland (www.mcdaniel.edu)--tickets $10 general, $8 students and seniors. Forgive the shameless shilling.
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."
Do they know there's a Frak Wildhorn musical of Cyrano de Bergerac with a song titled "Bring Me Giants"? Why would they go through all the trouble of writting another musical version?
