McCain finally sells the last portion of his soul.

I cannot believe this. Today he voted against the bill banning waterboarding, among other things.

He, as a former POW, has long been a believer in making sure the United States doesn't torture. It was one of the few stances for which I still somewhat respected him.

This literally shocks me. Pandering to the extreme. You know that vote was not how he really felt.

Wexy, I agree with you there. I used to really like him. Even 4 years ago I would have possibly supported him. Now...not so much

When have votes ever been about what was right? He voted the way he did because he's getting a lot of heat from conservatives who may not elect him POTUS. He can now say to the conservatives "See I am for your interests".

At least he voted. Clinton and Obama skipped this very important vote.

And that makes him president material? Another straw to grasp at.

Well, don't hold him up on a a pedestal. So far he's missed more votes than Obama AND Hillary.

"McCain has missed 255 of 450 votes cast in the Senate since January including every vote this year. That's according to the Democratic National Committee, which keeps a tally.

Obama has missed about 40 percent, or 170 votes, and Clinton has missed 24 percent, or 108 votes, according to the DNC tally."

Yes, but we know that some votes are more important than others. Missing a vote on defining torture is more important than missing a vote on whether restaurants should list transfat.

Since you seem to have no idea of the IMPORTANT votes that McCain has missed you may want to do some reading rather than just spouting political rhetoric.
Just one example

McCain missed a vote on Iraq?

So, according to Goth's logic in another thread, anything that McCain has to say about Iraq from now on is pointless and has no merit.

Here it is, in the Goth's words:

"And what do you have to say about the two Democrat POTUS nominees skipping such an important vote? From this moment on everything they say about torture will be meaningless because they had a chance to vote and didn't."

By simple extension, his quote might as well be, "And what do you have to say about the Republican POTUS nominee skipping such an important vote? From this moment on everything he says about Iraq will be meaningless because he had a chance to vote and didn't."

This will be a thread that Goth will probably never return to. He has away of simply disappearing when the questions get to hard.

Well, answer this simple question:

Will you apply your line of thinking to McCain, and state that McCain has no more credibility when it comes to Iraq? Or does that particular line of thinking apply solely to Democratic candidates?

Because it is the exact same situation.

Obviously not, since you responded.

But you do choose to ignore the question.

key phrase: "among other things"

like outlawing all enhanced interrogation techniques and forcing the cia to adhere to the military's policy. maybe johnny mac, like me, don't think that's the best policy going forward for america. the cia is not the united states army and should not be treated as such. there are things that go bump in the night, and someone must be there to bump back.

well.. that just proves that McCain is not really a nice person. he will be willing to compromise just to get the nomination or to win the election.. I dont know why i thought before..that he might be OKAY... I guess you can't really trust a Republican Politician at all.....my bad! for thinking that he was somehow different..sad sad sad ..

Do you REALLY value any information garnered through torture?

I wouldn't. Think of all of the false "confessions" police are able to get through their techniques which are leagues away from torture.

Papa, back in 2005 McCain was pretty clear on how he felt about torture being used, by any agency of the US including the CIA.

Here's a quote from a 2005 article:

"McCain responded: 'I don't know how you protect your life by torturing somebody. I've never understood that scenario."

McCain's proposal would do two things. First, it would restrict military interrogators to using only techniques authorized in the Army Field Guide, imposing firmer limits on military prisons.

Second, it would prohibit torture and other forms of cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment of detainees in US custody anywhere in the world. That rule would extend to CIA agents and officials from allied governments."

The rest of the article can be found here:

As you all so casually talk about torture here are a few names to remember:

Paul Johnson Jr.
Eugene Armstrong
Nick Berg
Daniel Pearl

Just remember that some people actually have the testicular fortitude to carry things out. What goes around comes around.
