I just heard from Saycon that she will be making her debut as Celie in "The Color Purple" for both shows today.
Anyone who is able to go-- please do. I know she appreciates the support, and I can assure you that she'll blow the roof off the place with what is definetly going to be a powerhouse performance.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
wow. I am extremely excited for her. I think Saycon is a great talent. When did she join the company (I must have miseed the announcement). Is she a stand-by or is she an understudy performing other roles in the show? Would love to hear about her performance. I'm sure she will do well. Updated On: 7/11/07 at 12:01 PM
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."

Saycon officially joined the company about a week or two ago as the Standby for Celie and Nettie.
She's only with the show for six weeks (filling in for Montego Glover, who's on some sort of leave.)

When did she leave Wicked? Will she be going back?
She was about as interesting at watching paint dry when I saw her go on as Elphaba in July 2005, but I understand that she got much better as she went on more. I hope she does well in the role! She has a teriffic voice, and I'm sure she'll be able to give more emotion in the show. :)

Her last day with "Wicked" was February 11th, and no, she won't be going back.

Well then, that'll be a lovely change from her performances in RENT, AIDA, and WICKED. Am curious to hear comments from anyone who saw the performance(s) today!

She said Fantasia (who I believe is a bit under the weather) is expected back tomorrow when I spoke to her this morning.
I'll let you know any updates I get when I hear from her again tonight after the evening performance. She said the matinee went well.
