"Irene Molloy, Matthew Morrison, Skipp Sudduth and Mare Winningham will star in the new musical featuring music and lyrics by Grammy Award-nominated recording artist Patty Griffin ("Impossible Dream"), a book by Keith Bunin (The Credeaux Canvas) and direction by Tony Award-nominee Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening).
10 Million Miles will begin previews on Friday, May 11th, open on Thursday, June 14th and play a limited engagement through Sunday, July 1st, 2007 Off-Broadway at Atlantic Theater Company at The Linda Gross Theater
The musical, according to press materials, "tells the story of Duane (Morrison) and Molly's (Molloy) road trip in an old pick-up truck from the southern tip of Florida to the Northwest corner of New York, with many detours along the way. With a book by Keith Bunin and songs by Patty Griffin, the world premiere of this new musical explores the pursuit of love and family, and the geography of the American dream."
Playbill.com also has the news with a little more info but since they DARED say that Griffin was crossing over to musical theatre from her folk and POP background, I won't even dignify it with a quote! lol... Pop! Seriously... What POP?! lol nevermind...
YET another thing that made me wish I was in NYC in May...
"What book of rules says that theatre exists only within some ugly buildings crowded into one square-mile of New York City? Wherever there's magic and make-believe and an audience, there's theatre..."
Patty Griffin is one of the most amazing singer/songwriters alive. Seriously, I could see them saying Rock...but no way in hell is she Pop! I wonder if they will include "Wiggly Fingers" in 10 Million Miles
I really hope he comes back with curls. He looked "the best" in Naked Girl.
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
I know! It seems like an ideal combination. Patty's recent CD deserves all the praise it's getting... From all accounts, there will be unreleased songs and original material as well as a few songs already released by Patty so I have no idea what will be in there. I wish Sutton had been able to get in the final staged production and I sure would love to hear her in the workshop but what can you do?
I'm curious about Mare Winningham... I heard some good things about her singing from a friend and she's a good actress so that might be interesting too...
aaargh... why is NYC so far away??
