Ok, I'm seeing Spamalot on Saturday for the first time, and I was wondering how the current cast is? I've heard spectacular things about Christian Borle, but how about the rest of them? Updated On: 10/23/06 at 10:22 PM
I'm also a big fan of Groener and Kennedy--I think they work wonderfully together and make the roles their own. Their last show is Sunday, so there's likely to be some extra adrenaline over the weekend.
Michael McGrath and Christian Borle, the only original principles left, are in top form and continue to have the audiences in stitches.
Martin Moran is also extremely noteworthy as Sir Robin (I swear, he's got the rhythm of the character down to a science--he gets the laughs EVERY TIME!), and Chris Hoch's Sir Lancelot is growing on me.
Have to second the opinions praising Michael McGrath and Christian Borle - wonderful performers, much overlooked.
Can't agree about Lauren Kennedy though. Especially compared to Sara Ramirez! Maybe if I hadn't seen SR in the role of Lady of the Lake I'd be more accepting of LK, but I would never have seen hers as a pivotal role. As it is I DID see Sara Ramirez and therefore found Lauren Kennedy to be a huge letdown, woefully miscast and just not at all funny - I came away with the distinct impression that she was trying FAR too hard, sad to say.
I haven't seen Sara Ramirez, but have seen clips of her on TV. Lauren Kennedy isn't as big of a powerhouse as Sara, but I think she pulled off the role fine. I think that most of the people who are really disappointed are the ones who have seen Sara and believe she IS the Lady of the Lake and no one will ever match up to her standards. Lauren Kennedy graced the stage and has a beautiful voice.

Re: Lauren Kennedy - "she was trying FAR too hard, sad to say. " My sentiments EXACTLY. She was just trying too hard to be funny and goofy and...it just came off as so incredibly false, to me. And her voice is good, but nowhere near Sara's. I did see Sara Ramirez and thought she was excellent, I must admit - but I'm also a huge Tim Curry fan and loved him in the role and still really liked Groener....so I'm not stuck on the originals just stating my opinion.
I also agree that Borle and McGrath are the definite standouts - just terrific, particularly Borle, who is just as fresh as he was when I saw him during previews!!
Oh and Marin Mazzie will be AMAZING, I can't wait.

Do we know how long Marin Mazzie will be in the show? I'm not sure if to chance her the first few weeks or wait until March (when I organize a group trip).
