I saw Hairspray back in 2003 with the OBC, and both my wife (back then my girlfriend) and I loved the show. it was fun, it had good music, etc. We were in NYC this week and saw that Haylie Duff is now in the show?
Um... not trying to be negative... but she doesnt exactly strike me as the talented type... has anyone seen her in it? was it as bad as it would seem?
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
If you search you will find many threads. Here is what I worte in the "Haylie Duff in Hairspay? Is this a joke?" thread :
Hairspray was sold out all 3 shows this weekend. Isnt that enough said? Producers are making their money, people are coming back to see the show again and young teen girls are going to theatre to see someone other than a green witch. I see nothing wrong with this. It worked on me, I went just to se Haylie and I must say, I honestly enjoyed her performance. Was she perfect? No. Was she the best possible person for the role? Probably not. Did she deliver a very good preformance? Yes. Will she get better as time goes on? Im sure. Haylie Duff is not killing Hairspary. She was no better and no worse than anyone else Ive seen in the role. Compared to some other stunt casting in recent years, I think she fit the show very well.
This is now the 3rd or 4th time i have posted the exact same thing. Try searching.
I wish people would chill she's not that bad in the show who pays to see amber anyway .. .. she's not awful not the best, but she was way better than i thought she would be
Once upon a time I used to play with toys,
but now I'd rather play around with teenage boys
I saw her today. To be honest, she was not that bad. She was very sweet at the stage door and took photos with people who asked. Hairspray is still a great show.
"This is a stupid story. It never stops. But we keep making lemonade! We're opening the biggest f***ing lemonade stand you ever saw!"

i think she's absolutely adorable. i took as typical as it was, my 13 year old cousin to see it when she first started and she wasn't that bad. like everyone is saying, you don't pay to see amber. she is a talented girl, maybe not as talented as some of these other broadway stars, but she has something. she was also really sweeet at the stage door to everyone
