I have never laughed so much at a show in so long. I enjoyed every single second of the show. First of, Bob Martin is a genuis and hysterical. From the opening monolouge in the dark through most of the show, he had the audience in stiches. He honestly stole the show.
Sadly, Beth Leavel was out and in for her was Linda Griffin, who did a knock out job of being the Chaperone. Her "As We Stumble Along" wasnt as passionate and crazed as Beth's on the CD, but she did a bang up job acting wise and her voice was beautiful.
Sutton was fantastic. I've never seen her in anything live before, only recordings, but she has such a presence and was such a great little dancer, her "Show Off" moves were fantastic. And "Bride's Lament" was hysterical, I was dying. She has the pipes to do a amazing job and she did, she knocked out of the park.
Troy Briton Johnson was awesome. He has such an amazing stage presence and he played the character of Robert Martin to a tee. In his biography it said he played Corny Collins in Hairspray's national tour and it shows, he has a very- Cornyesque quality as Robert. Bravo in Accident Waiting to Happen- my favorite song from the show (besides I Do, I Do, In The Sky)
Danny Burstein is HYSTERICAL. Adolpho was such a character, I loved every scene he was in, especially when he says "Help me" to Janet upon becoming engaged to the Chaperone. And "I Am Adolpho" so hysterical. If DRS wasnt closing, he should have played Freddie.
The only other actors out were Garth Kravitz as Gangster #2, but Joey Sorge who played it did a hysterical job, along side Jason Kravitz. And since Joey Sorge usually plays the Super, the role of the Super was played by Jay Douglas, who was very funny in a tiny part, but still funny.
Geogria and Noble were fantastic, they had such amazing chemistry together and me laughing hysterically during the spit-take scene, was fanastic.
Rounding out the cast amazingness was Kecia Lewis- Evan who has such an amazing voice as Trixie, she should play Slyvia in All Shook Up, one day. Jennifer Smith as the ditzy but fantastic Kitty, who was hysterical at her "mind reading". Eddie Korbich was a fantastic tap dance man as Geogre, the best man, Geogre {sorry couldnt resist.} Lenny Wolpe was great as Feldzieg, he's such a crazy character to watch.
I throughly enjoyed this show, and afterward met:
Bob Martin- such a great guy & TALL. Troy Britton Johnson Eddie Korbich Lenny Wolpe Jason Kravitz Danny Burstein Linda Griffin Kecia Lewis had to run because she had her son or daughter with her, but was very nice upon leaving apologizing.
Sutton, Geogria escaped the stage door to the dismay of many. I was sad, I wanted to meet Sutton, because I loved her in LITTLE WOMEN and THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE cast recordings.
I took pictures but they won't be up till I arrive home. More shows to come. Updated On: 8/22/06 at 11:39 PM
Personally, i'm not much of a Noble fan. I just don't find him that interesting. Beth was out? Aw. I didn't know she was missing shows. I hope she isn't sick. Hopefully just vacation?
OH MY GOD! BOB MARTIN IS SO TALL! I'm like 5"2, and when I met him he had to like bend down and like touch his toes so he could be eye level to the camera. (not literally of course)
I think all the cast members are hilarious in their own way. This show was perfectly cast and has one of the best books i've seen in a while. :] Great review.

I was extremely sad when I saw Beth was out. I loved her on the cast recording and was dying to see her live. Noble was good, but I didnt see the original Underling whose off doing something else.
I'm like 6'0 and I was like "Woah, Bob Martin is TALL!" Updated On: 8/22/06 at 11:46 PM
It's wonderful to hear that the show is just as much fun now (and with understudies in) as it was when I saw it. It really is fun and I'm looking forward to seeing it again before too long.

Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was surprised at Bob Martin's height at the stage door. Man in Chair just *seems* like a short person (and that sweater doesn't help)...it was weird seeing that Bob Martin was actually tall and lanky.
Thanks for the review! Glad you liked the show.

I was in the mezz and from the mezz he looks short anyway, but the sweater doesnt help, then you see him out at the stage door and I did a double take, it was hysterical.
I saw one girl outside the theatre trying to get people to get tickets today and no one really took her up on the offer, yet it was good crowd this evening.
gr8 headline boi! glad to hear it twas amazing, i so badly wanna see drowsy but that prob wont be happening any time soon unles my mother like idk acually takes some medication! but ne way sounds fab. how long u there n e way? N sidenote i gave u that thoroughly cast recording!!!

Glad you liked it too! I was there at the stage door last night (after seeing Kiki and Herb) hoping to just get a glimpse at Sutton and maybe say hi to my favorite star, but no such luck again. Seems she rarely comes out anymore, and that has been discussed on other threads here.
I, too, was stunned when I met Bob Martin. I'm 5'7" and was expecting him to be the same height as me. Then I realized I was looking up at him, it's funny, though. 'Cause as others have said, he just seems like he'd be short. Or maybe it's just that Man in Chair does.
So sad to hear Beth Leavel is out. I saw her understudy once before and must say, I wasn't really stunned. Probably just because I'm spoiled by Beth's power on the cast recording. Oh well, she acted well and had a great voice, but I guess in comparison to Beth...

Glad you enjoyed the show! I saw it this past Sunday and LOVED it. Honestly I wish it won Best Musical at the Tonys.
Regarding Garth Kravits, when I saw him at the stage door on Sunday it looked like cast members were saying bye to him, so he probably is on vacation this week or left the show (the latter which I doubt). Anyways, I thought the Kravits brothers were one of the highlights of the show as well as Sutton, Beth, Bob Martin, and Adolpho! Everyone was amazing - one of the more talented casts on Broadway today!

Yay Clumsy! Sorry you missed BL but glad you had such a great time. It's so funny you mention DRS and Danny Burstein. I was in the Pantages last night here in LA seeing the 'Scoundrels' tour and in our playbill was an article on Danny and I thought he would make a great Freddie in DRS too!
I love TDC. Sad to have missed Beth, but still, an awesome cast!
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...
I knew Beth would be out at about 1:30 in the afternoon when I was backstage. I've seen the show 4 times and yesterday I got to go backstage. It was awesome.
There are no matinees on Tuesdays. I went in at around 1:15. We had a tour that lasted about half an hour. It was fantastic. We got to see everything. We even got pictures next to Bob's chair.
