You know, Julia seems very right for this role. She didn't pick something bizarre (or too identified with others, say, Maggie in CAT) for her debut. I'm rooting for her. But the play was always quirky and interesting, but small-- and probably, ironically, seems "thinner' BECAUSE it has a mega-presence like Julia in it. Some material -- small canvas plays -- feel magnified unduly when stars play them. People raise expectations. Some have claim that THIS IS OUR YOUTH, for example, was less effective in London with Damon, etc.

"As to not start another thread, I suppose I'm the only person who would like Julia to be OUT on a show day to see how Michelle Federer would handle it."

As long as it's not tonight!!!!!

I have a feeling she will do every performance...like Denzel Washington and Hugh Jackman did. Harry Connick Jr. hasn't missed a performance of PJGame yet either. i wouldn't be surprised if the performance that Julia missed was cancelled.

Just got back from the show and can honestly say that it was one of the worst I've ever seen. Julia Roberts is a good screen actor and she should stick to it. She was absolutely AWFUL in today's performance. We sat towards the back of the center orchestra and we could hardly hear her. Her character in the Act 1 was very bland so I figured that she would be much more dynamic in Act 2, playing a Southern belle who was very dramatic. Boy was I wrong! Her accent faded in and out. She was extremely forgettable and I'm guessing that the critics will rip her apart. No standing ovation, either!

I suggest that if you have tickets, sell them on Ebay!(IMHO)

There we go baby girl. I felt the same way, only it's not one of the worst I have ever seen. Mine also did not get a full standing O. Nobody in the mezz stood.
