On this past Thursday at around 5:30 the only notable shows left were Ring of Fire, Well, and Doubt (50%). They also had 1 limited view seat for DRS at 35%
We took Doubt, which had an understudy for Ron Edard, who performed wonderfully. Eileen Atkins was also wonderful, but Jenna Malone was sub par. Have seen better in high school performances.
I've seen Hairspray up there once and I've never seen Spelling Bee up there. This is not to say that they're never up there, but it seems to be a pretty rare occurrence.
Piazza, Hairspray and DRS are almost ALWAYS up there. Avenue Q is rarely ever up there. Maybe once a week when Broadway overall is slow, and even then it's never half off. Spelling Bee is about as frequent as Avenue Q. You should have come during the transit strike, all but three shows (Wicked, The Odd Couple and Spamalot) were at TKTS for most of the week. Since a lot of schools are on Spring Break this week, Broadway has been packed!
Hairspray's lotto has been really busy lately, but the chances for winning are still high. Also, they draw early, so even if you lose, you can still go for Spelling Bee. Spelling won't appear on tkts, but Hairspray might.
I am planning a day in NYC on a Tuesday in late April with 4 friends. We thought it would be fun to just "wing it" at TKTS for whatever is available that we would all like to see. What are the chances of getting 5 tickets to the same show? And what time do you suggest we get there? I have never done TKTS before, so any advise would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'd say you most likely can get 5 tickets at tkts for the same show. However, more than likely, the seats all won't be together.
I'd say get there as early as they open but that has proved to be a mistake. The show starts at 8 so you could get there at 6:30 or 7 and be fine to get to the show on time. At that time, the line will either be minimal or none. If you go earlier, you could be in line for 2+ hours.
