At a recent stage door sighting Helen Lawson came on to me and then she came on to my father.

I had to read through four pages of posts to see than no one had mentioned Karen Ziemba! Shame on you, Rath!

KZ is the sweetest Broadway performer I have ever met. She has bestowed numerous acts of kindness upon me since I first met her in 1993.

Tyne Daly, Julie Andrews, Tommy Tune, Carolee Carmello - all have written back to me with very kind words. And all are people I highly admire.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

Jon, everyone knows Karen is the nicest. And if they don't, screw 'em.

Whenever KZ pops in to where I work, she is the kindest soul, and I've absolutely never seen her without a huge grin on her face - she's simply lovely.

To be honest with you, I dislike the specious and saccharine tone of this thread. Let me tell you something about Harvey Fierstein: he has devoted his life to raising money and public awareness for charitable causes, namely those connected with AIDS and the sheltering and adopting of animals. He has raised thousands and thousands of dollars. He is the first person to volunteer auction items, enlist his famous and powerful friends and contribute his own $$ to his causes. On the stage he sets a standard for professionalism that is unmatched. You won’t find Harvey calling out on a whim, and he takes to task those who do. Harvey is old time show business; you are going to get your moneys worth. While I have no doubt that Harvey can be mercurial, I have never witnessed anything out of line from him in public. And as has been mentioned before on this thread, there are several famous nightmares who stroke and coo over their fans while being blistering head cases behind the scenes.

I've never met her in my life, but based on encounters that I've heard, Kristin Chenoweth is extra nice. She even hugs people.

Matthew Broderick...he just doesn't have time to talk to people he's not working with.

Nobody has mentioned Sherie, and she has been great each time I've met her. I too have had nothing but good experiences with Idina, though obviously my experiences pre-wicked were better.

I don't want to write anything about who I've had bad experiences with, because they were just that...experiences. They don't determine a person's character.

Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!
Idina: Thanks...I WAS SO HIGH! 8/21/05

And, red, you can vouch for the fact that I'm really nice to my fans after the show, especially when they bring cookies!

Sherie was incredibly down-to-earth and sweet both times that I spoke with her.
Greg Jbara is of course, amazing. And Norbert was incredibly humble, sort of shy but really sweet.

Yeah, the best stagedoor experiences I've had have definitely been with DRS.

Greg Jbara is definitely the nicest, he's well above everybody else (in my opinion).

Jeff Goldblum was also really funny and quite chatty.

Glad to hear it downtown, I totally agree! Such a great group of actors who are so sweet to their fans.

But trust me when I tell you that some people who are wonderful at the stage door, and great to their fans, are not so great in their real lives to the people around them on a daily basis.

Truer words have never been spoken. On a Broadway show I worked on YEARS ago (probably before half of the people who have posted on this thread were even born), one of the leads was a total terror backstage: he was rude to nearly everyone, and it got to the point where the only time he and his female counterpart ("love interest") only spoke when they were on stage. He used to regularly mock the show's fans right before going out and playing nice with them at the stage door.

At the stage door, he was sweet, kind, signing autographs and having long conversations.

People seem to forget that the stage door is just another performance space. Some excell at it; others don't.
