It is a shame that the great restaurants of Midtown are closing for stupid skyscrpaers: Barrymore, JR's (where I shook hands with Marsha Mason!) and McHales. It is such a pity as they were great places to go after a night at the theatre or before hand.
What were your opinions about the restaurants and the closings?

It is such a shame. I fell in love with the place after Dame Edna's Royal Tour. My boyfriend and I had the same waiter that delivered food at the show. It was so much fun and I continued to go there. A very sad day.
What a sad day when we have to give up dining in mid town for highrises that will only house bad business, mean executives with no life and cut throat business people. I love Barrymores and this is sad..very sad.
It had a great ombiance(sp). I loved the food and the atmostphere. It had something that other places do not have. Next thing you know they will get rid of the Cafe Edison!

why cant they build around it. i mean i am sure there is a way to keep the restaurant and attach it to the new building. like we need another skyscraper in mid town
Well it's to my understanding that Shubert owns most of that block as well.... and Im fairly certain, at the very least, that building. (considering that's where part of the Shubert executive offices are)

Well I know MTV owns half of the alley (yeah, split it down the middle) and from there to the corner.... but Ollie's is on the other side of the street. Im not sure WHO owns that.
