You know what would be even better than the rights being released?

If they stopped pushing it back and finally just released the cast recording.

Andrew, tonight isn't about you! It isn't even about me!!! - [FD]

It's not hard to produce at all. As a matter of fact it's perfect for a small theatre. It has a cast of what 10 pl, it can be done in a black box theatre with an orchestra of 5 at the most. Producers would looooooove this show. It's so cheap, accessible, yet powerful. Producer's dream.

you don't think it will be difficult for regional/community theatres to find the people to make up this cast? and perform the material? musically and emotionally it is very very difficult material, and i know at least one person from the off-broadway cast said they almost didn't do the show because of the slavery aspect and how against it their family was.

bah not at all. Firstly there's only really one track thatis difficult to sing. The music isn't THAT difficult. I think you underestimate regional theatres. They're doing the likes of Ragtime, Caroline or Change, and Sweeney Todd. Dessa Rose isn't nearly as hard to produce as those pieces. There are plenty of great singers and actors that aren't in NY and if they don't find them in their cities, then they cast from NY. Most regional theatres cast from NY anyway. As far as the subject, I think it's fine. It generally doesn't offend people. Slavery's a fact. It happened. I think what the family memebers of the cast member were speaking of is playing ANOTHER slave. It's just something a black actor gets tired of doing. Either their militant black men looking for revenge, jazz singers, tap dancers or slaves. Once you rule all that out, you'll be a drug dealer. I think the cast member may have been struggling with that. If the cast member was white, then their family is being foolish.

no, it was a black cast member and i hope you're right.

you know i loved the show more than life so i would be so ecstatic to see it being produced!

somehow i don't think it's going to be a huge sell for mti.

out of curiosity, what do you think was the toughest number in the show?

The opening. I'm sorry but a girl having to stand up and Belt WE ARE DECENDED cold like that is tough. It's gotta be like a D or E.

Anyway, the score is very Americana, folk. It's not very difficult musically as far as rhythm and stuff goes. I think this show will be successful in the country as along as peopel know about it. I think most people won't know what it is.

At the Glen...I don't remember that song. Is that where Rachel and Norm sing a duet?

no, it was rachel's monster solo. she was alone "at the glen"... her husband was never home right after they got married. it was so sad and a lesson in musical theatre acting.

Well I'll get the CD this week and listened to it. I saw it in April and I haven't heard anything from it since. So it's possible I might have missed numbers.

What's surprising is that it's a double disc with the entire show on it. I mean I know it's billed asa folk opera, but for an Off-Broadway show at a non-profit theatre, that's pretty damn good.
