Do you think Saycon and Adiane Lenox will have anything to do with it on Broadway since they have helped out with out of town try outs?
(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."
Lenox has said in interviews that she is no longer attached to the project and will not be doing the Broadway production.

I've never read the Alice Walker novel. I've yet to see the motion picture based on it. The musical sounds interesting. I might pick up the novel this week to read and after that rent the film to compare before this show hits Broadway. Also, is Brenda Russell (credited as one of the composers/lyricists) the same Brenda Russell who sang "Piano in the Dark?"

Why would I want to do that Macgruder? Was it really that bad? From what I know it was an Oscar nominated film and I'm assuming it got good reviews. I do remember when the film came out. For some reason I just never got around to seeing it.
Oh my gosh! Marquise, get the to a Blockbuster! I loved the book and I really enjoyed the film as well. I think it is a classic. How can you not like the film? I love me some Miss Margaret Avery as Shug!

Some young people may have forgotten the picketing and boycotts that sprung up all over the country at the time of the film's opening, due to the film's depiction of black men as either evil, corrupt or buffoonish. There isn't one three-dimensional sympathetic black male character in it and several members of the black community condemned it at the time.

Oh, I do recall the uproar that occured. I guess what I am looking for is why did you not care for the film? Is it for that reason?
